good first half, I didn't like the way Argentina quit the attack, Ivory Coast players run fast but they have no international experience and still need to improve their game
-
Well interesting games today. I'm glad England won, and the Argentina game was quite good as well. I see I'm not doing too badly with the predictions so far either.

I am curious, though, as to how the Iranian team will do... My predictions for today: Serbia/Montenegro - Holland 0-2 Mexico - Iran 3-0 Angola - Portugal 0-3

My first impressions of the first two days are of great respect to all the nations playing. Once upon a time the first round was a formality for the major nations - rather like a charitable gift to the lesser nations - "come along and make up the numbers - have a few moments in the spotlight - before the big boys get serious" With minor team players all playing in the major worldwide leagues clearly this is no longer the case. Trinidad & Tobago didn't draw with Sweden by accident. I was impressed that their national association funded a full five weeks training camp prior to the tournament - and clearly that vision, faith and financial commitment has served them well. Progression to the knock out stages is no longer a gimmee - the major national sides should sit up and take notice - even after two days that notice has been formally served. Martin

For those of you in the U.S. who normally watch on ESPN/ABC, I highly recommend switching to Univision for at least the pre-match coverage as they show the pagentry of the teams walking out and the national anthems being played. For me, this is required viewing to help get you even more excited for the match itself. Besides, the American announcers suck. Always using analogies to American sports. "Marcelo, when a player is down on the field injured, that would be like when a basketball player is down on the court injured, right?" : I'm overracting here, but they do go overboard much too often for my liking. And did you notice the announcer during the England-Paraguay match talking about the great "Michael Beckham"? No lie. : They talked about Posh Spice almost as much as they did Michael Beckham.
