Either that or he went back to pick up the luggage he left behind. Assuming he'll be playing, it's still unknown when he'll be available. Will he play in the 1st Round? Meanwhile, terrible news for France. Djibril Cisse was injured during a friendly against China and the report I've heard is that he broke the same leg he broke last season against Blackburn and is definately out of the tournament. If you saw that injury last season... Absoluetly horrific.

I placed my statement in response to what I heard on BBC News 24 - they seem to think he is going to play.

Yeah, it definately looks like he's in. Just a question of when he'll see action. Of all places, I found on a fan website for Derby County saying that "all pointers being maybe 20 minutes against Sweden a week on Tuesday".

Sir Alex Ferguson has apparently just been reached for comment: "Eh? wassat? fargingpapermyfaceokokjustonemorewassyournameagainlilgirl? Holyfargingcripesimwastedwhatwasint hatdrink,Sven? BuggeroffyarllassholesWayne******** onoffouttahere yayayay yahoooooo give 'emafoothelltakeatarsal ontheplane Mommie the rooms spinning!!" Translation: The Knighted One was delighted with the results and looked forward to Rooney playing an integral role in a long and succesful World Cup run, before sitting out the whole next season on account of being rushed back.

World Cup Predictions Game Whoever is interested, we can have some sort of a predictions game going. I figure we can keep it fairly simple. Just predict the scores of each match. You will receive 1 point for each correct result (win/draw/lose) and three points total for exact scoreline with correct result. Example: You predict Team A to beat Team B 2-1. -- If Team A wins 2-1 you get 3 points. -- If Team A wins by a different scoreline, you receive 1 point. -- If Team B wins or the match is drawn, you get 0 points. Simple enough, yes? I'll keep score unless someone else offers. We'll do this game in two stages: -- The first will be in the 1st Round group stages (48 total matches). After the first round ends (Friday 23 June), a winner will be declared. -- Upon the beginning of the 2nd Round/knockout stages (Saturday 24 June), we'll all start with a clean slate and go from the 2nd Round through to the Final to declare another winner. Winners receive nothing, losers receive even less. When predicting, your best bet is to wait until each group has completed their first set of their matches before going on to the second set of that group. (aka, for now just predict up to the Tunisia-v-Saudi Arabia match on June 14) I say this because, for example, the result of Germany-Costa Rica will likely have an impact on how the Germany-Poland game will be played. Get it? If not, just have a go at the whole lot and I'll add up your scores as the tournament progresses. It's up to you on when you want to predict. Just as long as you predict a match before it kicks off. If you fail to predict before a match begins, you'll receive 0 points for that game. (I'll likely make my predictions day-by-day.) Here's the full schedule for the 1st Round: Friday 9 June Germany - Costa Rica Poland - Ecuador Saturday 10 June England - Paraguay Trinidad/Tobago - Sweden Argentina - Ivory Coast Sunday 11 June Serbia/Montenegro - Holland Mexico - Iran Angola - Portugal Monday 12 June Italy - Ghana USA - Czech Republic Australia - Japan Tuesday 13 June Brazil - Croatia France - Switzerland South Korea - Togo Wedenesday 14 June Spain - Ukraine Tunisia - Saudi Arabia Germany - Poland Thursday 15 June Ecuador - Costa Rica England - Trinidad/Tobago Sweden - Paraguay Friday 16 June Argentina - Serbia/Montenegro Holland - Ivory Coast Mexico - Angola Saturday 17 June Portugal - Iran Italy - USA Czech Republic - Ghana Sunday 18 June Brazil - Australia Japan - Croatia France - South Korea Monday 19 June Togo - Switzerland Spain - Tunisia Saudi Arabia - Ukraine Tuesday 20 June Ecuador - Germany Costa Rica - Poland Sweden - England Paraguay - Trinidad/Tobago Wednesday 21 June Holland - Argentina Ivory Coast - Serbia/Montenegro Portugal - Mexico Iran - Angola Thursday 22 June Czech Republic - Italy Ghana - USA Japan - Brazil Croatia - Australia Friday 23 June Togo - France Switzerland - South Korea Saudi Arabia - Spain Ukraine - Tunisia Good luck.

Munich greets FIFA World Cup winners 8 June 2006 by FIFAworldcup.com When the Opening Match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup is played in Munich on Friday, it will be graced by the presence of FIFA World Cup winners from 1950 to 2002 ? legends from Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Italy, Germany, and Uruguay, all of who have been in the Bavarian capital since 5 June. Their performances down the years have ensured their place in football history and helped spread the spirit of football throughout the world. No other sport unites people or incites the same emotion and passion as football, one of the many reasons why the legendary feats of these world champions deserve to be honoured. Jose Luis Brown, a winner with Argentina in 1986, is one former champion who is delighted to be in Munich. ?It was a great idea of FIFA?s to invite all the world champions," he said. "It?s a wonderful experience being together with so many other World Cup winners. What can I say about Germany? It?s a great nation, and the organisation is fantastic." The ex-champions? entrance at the opening ceremony of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Munich on 9 June will be the largest and most spectacular parade of international football superstars ever seen. Even Diego Maradona has confirmed that he will be present. Together with Pele and Franz Beckenbauer, the legendary Argentine completes the trio of the greatest football stars of all time, and his presence will add to what is certain to be a magnificent and colourful opening program. The triumphant German teams from the finals of 1974 and 1990 will also be represented in this parade of football legends at the FIFA World Cup Stadium Munich. Four members of the victorious team from 1954 will be led by Horst Eckel, with Germany represented by almost 40 FIFA World Cup winners. Some 160 stars will be present for the occasion, including players from all seven countries that have been triumphant in the previous 17 FIFA World Cups. Brazil naturally provides the largest contingent of former champions, with 55 ex-players representing the teams that have won the FIFA World Cup a record five times. Mario Kempes, the Golden Shoe winner from the 1978 finals, is the latest Argentine to accept the invitation, swelling their numbers to 32. Sir Bobby Charlton is the major star from the victorious England side of 1966, while French captain Didier Deschamps will lead the representatives of the team of 1998. Three-time champions Italy will have, among others, Giancarlo Antognoni, Giuseppe Bergomi and Marco Tardelli, while Alcides Ghiggia, the man who scored the winning goal against Brazil in front of 200,000 spectators in 1950, plunging an entire nation into mourning, will proudly represent Uruguay. ?It?s wonderful to be here in Munich and to see all my old team-mates again, and particularly special with it being just days before the opening match of the tournament. Germany is a great football nation, and I have a lot of friends here?, Sir Bobby Charlton told FIFAworldcup.com. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060607/1/76t9.html

Germany lose Ballack for opener 8 June 2006 by AFP Germany captain Michael Ballack has lost his battle to be fit for Friday's World Cup opener against Costa Rica, manager Jurgen Klinsmann said on Thursday. Ballack was forced to pull out of Wednesday's training with his calf injury still troubling him and Klinsmann said his star midfielder would not be available in Munich. "It seems that Michael Ballack cannot play against Costa Rica," Klinsmann said at a press conference on Thursday. "He only trained for 30 minutes on Wednesday and then had to pull out. "We wanted Ballack on board as he is our captain and leader but it is important that he recovers. "We want him to get back to full fitness so that he can be fit for the other games in the competition." Werder Bremen midfielder Tim Borowski and Borussia Dortmund's Sebastian Kehl are thought to be the men in the frame to step in for Ballack against Costa Rica. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060608/6/770v.html
