Congrats USA!!! What a f.... game! What you need now is defeat Ghana!!!
Because of goal differential, USA MUST beat Ghana by at least three clear goals AND hope... -- Italy defeats the Czechs by any scoreline OR -- the Czechs beat Italy 2-0 or 3-1 If USA only beats Ghana by two goals, all kinds of scenarios will come into play. USA will go out if they only beat Ghana 1-0.
does the direct winner rule aplies here? I think it does, howver I think it applies when the goal differnce is the same

FIFA still uses goal differential as the first tiebreaker in the World Cup. Goals For (scored) is second. Matchup result between teams tied in standings is third. UEFA uses "matchup result" as first tiebreak for the "EURO" Championships and for UEFA Champions League. It's debatable which should be used for first tiebreak. Goal differential makes things a lot more interesting during the final day of group play when games are played simultaneously and scoreboard watching becomes a necessity. Matchup result is perhaps the more fair option, however.

Ok, I was actually watchin' this one. If he gives a red card for every tackle someone makes on that field today, they won't have any players left. :
Both red cards were justified imo.
We don't think so, we thought the second was only worth a yellow.
Two-footed challenge from any player deserves red. I don't like it because it's a player from the team I'm rooting for, but reckless play deserves to be punished.
HUGE debate raging at the "sawker" message board I normally post at as to whether or not that red card was justified. The American posters are crucifying the ref, as I expected. Most of the "neutrals" thought it was the correct decision but weren't so kind on other decisions he made. I "Tivo'd" the game and just watched that one play again. Although I take back my assertion of a "two-footed" challenge (FIFA's play-by-play lists it as one and I thought it was intially as well) I still do think it was dangerous enough to warrant a sending off. Overall, however, Señor Larrionda had a, er, difficult night, shall we say.

I thought, the referee has done a good job. It was an aggressive game and certainly not an easy job. All the red cards were OK. I'll do the predictions for the next two days: Japan - Croatia 0-1 Brazil - Australia 2-1 France - Korea 1-1 Togo - Switzerland 1-1 Saudi Arabia - Ukraine 1-2 Spain - Tunisia 3-0
-
Japan - Croatia 0-2 Brazil - Australia 3-0 France - South Korea 2-0

When I wrote the part in bold, I was only taking into account goal differential. Forgot to look at points. ops: If Italy beats the Czechs, USA only needs to beat Ghana straight up. Margin of scoreline would be irrelevent. Goal difference would come into play if the Czechs beat Italia or they draw. Whatever, USA have to defeat Ghana to stand a chance of qualifying into Round 2. A draw and they're out.

JPN sub Fu-kunishi off <--- can't write his name normally Inamoto on 2nd half begins
