The UK Series 3 box set does not include the Christmas special for 2012. Their box set came out in November. Looks like the US series 3 box will have the Christmas special. I ordered the Christmas Special as a seperate DVD from the UK. Should have within the next few days. If you are in the US, you need a DVD player that can handle PAL (UKs system) DVDs if you buy off Amazon UK. Many DVD players can be hacked by simple pressing of buttons on the remote to make them zero region, so they can play PAL (or any other system). There are websites which give the codes by manufacturer if you search. All my DVD players will play PAL. If they won't play in your US DVD player, they will play on your computer. Podgie (can't wait for the Xmas special) Monkey

Oh man! That's what I want to avoid, running it through my new mac. I'm going to buy a new TV AFTER I visit London next summer. Suxs having all these degrees and being poor. C'est la vie! (F@@@@@@ A)

Just watched the 2012 Christmas Episode. So glad I didn't see it on Christmas Day! Certainly an unexpected surprise ending. Not in a good way. Podgie (now the wait for the next series) Monkey

What I was wondering is "In the UK will there be a Christmas show, like there was last year?"
From what I have read, there will be a Christmas special aired on the 25th of December in the UK. *SPOILER ALERT* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Downton_Abbey_episodes
Read somewhere that the Christmas special 2012 is set AFTER season 3. I think this is a mistake. Shouldn't the Christmas special come between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3? It WAS free online. Can't find the link, now, or it has maybe expired.

The 2011 Christmas special was aired on 25th December 2011 in the UK, after season 2 had aired (in the UK). The 2012 Christmas special was aired on 25th December 2012 in the UK, after season 3 had aired (in the UK). Season 3 premieres here in the States this evening, Sunday, the 6th of January. The 2012 Christmas special will air here in the States at the end of season 3.

Tonight at 9PM Eastern time on PBS... For those who are interested DON'T FORGET!!

Two hour premiere was pretty fabulous and entertaining. Shirley MacLaine added a lot. I missed a lot of the dialogue because someone kept talking, and had to struggle to see "Downton" because they wanted to see "Honey Boo," I wish they didn't come on the same night! And "Golden Globes" comes on next Sunday night, its second hour shall war with "Downton."

It was good. Shirley Mc. was good, but I was expecting more. My husband said she was just getting warmed up. Hope so. I'm expecting some wickeder lines from her in future, though. The daughter who got married was acting like a spoiled, rich-kid little brat. But, I liked it. I'll give it three stars for that episode (out of 5).

Yes, Lady Mary threw a fit because her hubby Matthew didn't want to save Downton Abbey and its way of life, due to scruples over having "broken Lucinda's heart" right before she passed away, I suppose he meant when Lucinda saw him and Lady Mary kiss or almost kiss as they were dancing (?). Then L. gently reproached him on her deathbed --or rather, didn't actually "reproach" but told him she thought he still loved Lady Mary. He must have thought he didn't do an effective acting job when he demurred. Anyway, how is Downton going to be "saved"? Shirley MacLaine said she couldn't because her money was all "tied down" or "tied up" or something, and also, the Granthams or Crawleys or whatever they are, the Lords and Ladies of the place shouldn't be so frightfully traditional and stuffy. They should go see Shirley in Newport and New York.

It was a really enjoyable show...So glad Lady Mary found someone she could actually care for....She is very high maintenance!! Does anyone actually think Master Bates is really guilty? The last scene in jail made me wonder? Am really enjoying Shirley MacLaine and her American ways, amongst the proper Crawleys... she is so unaware and the quiet tsk tsk of the family...can't wait to see more! Now how did Robert Crawley lose all that money... it makes him look like a boob all of the sudden...

He placed all his investment money in one company which failed. Something like that. I seldom understand the ways of high finance

Yes, he had his broker invest most of her money in a "sure thing" per one of his friends at his club or some such story. They were probably all sitting around drinking and socializing. Not a good way to make sound financial decisions. But then, he's never worked a day in his life....

Oh, never worked a day in his life?! Why does that always happen?!
