Doctor Who

We really enjoyed Closing Time, wonderful episode with a great ending! Thrilled to see the Doctor's new coat remain for the entire episode! The Doctor name tag was a nice touch. LOVED the advertisement for Petrichor...For the Girl Who's Tired of Waiting - brilliant!!! "Crimson - Eleven - Delight - Petrichor"......hoping to find the crimson flag/banner in next week's episode. A better look at the stars for Alfie was a delightful surprise. Nice to find the origin of the TARDIS blue stationary. Sooooo cute......Alfie: "Doctor"

SPOILERS! (as River Song says) Yeah, I was a bit confused until I realized this was a prequel to what we'd already seen (the future Doctor being killed by the astronaut River Song/aka Melody Pond)

Thanks TLP I appreciate your always keeping us sorted in the US

I have seen tonight's it's messy and a bit of a let down
-
You're very privileged then as it doesn't air in the UK for another three hours. And doesn't air in the USA for a further eight hours or more. So please no Spoilers until we've all been able to view it and form our own opinions. Martin

Well, that made sense to me, albeit I can understand casual followers might not get the references and time points gathered together. It's worth finding and watching the BBC "behind the scenes" show Doctor Who Confidential after seeing this finale as it has a special River Song special feature that tells her story in chronological order from her standpoint from her birth in Demon's Run through to her death in The Library. And a mini-special based on a script submisssion as part of a school script writing competition. For UK viewers here's the programme on the BBC iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b015qmsl/Doctor_Who_Confidential_Series_6_When_Time_Froze/ I understand this programme airs in the US under a different name? Sadly, this is the last "behind the scenes" special Confidential, apparently the BBC are not going to follow future shows with this spin-off series in future. Martin

Absolutely LOVED the finale!!! Cannot wait until midnight to see it again! "So, you and me...we should get a drink sometime...and get married."

I would never post a spoiler. It closed some gaps shame that the viewers need confidential to make real sense of it al though. An insider told me that although they are looking at dropping it they will still keep something similar for future DVD releases.

Steven Moffat blasts BBC decision to axe Doctor Who Confidential
Writing in his monthly ?Production Notes? column for Doctor Who Magazine, Moffat said, of the decision to axe Doctor Who Confidential (DWC): ?[It] seems hard to grasp. All shows have their time, and all shows end, but not, in all sanity, while people still watch and love them [?] I?m not supposed to say it, but I?m going to anyway: bad day, bad decision.?

The latest Doctor Who computer game is available for free download now:
On a sadder note the BBC has screened the last three full stories (six double episodes) shown in the Sarah Jane Adventures series. Sarah ends up adopting another human looking alien child - presumeably intended as a replacement for Luke - albeit fortuitously, Luke does play a full role in the final story. The BBC ended the final episode with a brief flashback over Sarah Jane's previous adventures closing on the simple words: "The story continues..." No actual mention of the premature passing of Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah-Jane herself, that brought this series filming to an early end. However the BBC did give full coverage of the event and marked her passing very appropiately at the time. Martin -

Breakfast TV had a delightful interview with Elisabeth Sladen's daughter Sadie Miller today. Talking about the decision by the family to posthumously publish the autobiography that Elisabeth was writing prior to her death. Coming from that interview the information that her illness and passing was brief - she was diagnosed in February with cancer and passed away in April. I had wondered how it was she was able to complete those Sarah - Jane Adeventure episodes before passing. The biography, of course, covers her original Doctor Who spell as well as her unexpected recall to the revived series in School Dinner and subsequently recieving the call to be the star of the children's spin-off series Sarah-Jane Adventures. Now I'm not normally a biography/autobiography person but I might make an exception in this case. Some of that love shows through in this earlier interview with Sadie with the Radio Times: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2011-10-03/elisabeth-sladen's-daughter-shares-memories-of-her-mother - that's an unusual url, you'll need to copy and paste the whole thing into your browser bar to read it. - albeit at that time no mention that Mum's autobiography was in preparation for publication. The book is released on Monday 7th November: Elisabeth Sladen: The Autobiography by Elisabeth Sladen Permalink: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1845134885 Martin

BBC Children In Need has it's usual Doctor Who moment. I'll look for a YouTube upload soon:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/videos/p00lz391 But in the midst of that a trailer for the Xmas special. Called The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe it has more than a passing allegiance to C S Lewis' Narnia Tales: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_111119_02/The_Christmas_Special_The_Doctor_The_Widow_and_The_Wardrobe http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_111119_01/See_it_All_on_Children_in_Need As usual appetite duly whetted.... Yes! I can't wait to see this!

Matt Smith appeared on BBC Breakfast today following up his Children In Need appearance - the outfit offered for auction is already listed at £50,000 with a further day to go. While on TV he also confirmed he has signed contracts for a further 14 episodes - ie the whole 13 part 2012 season plus the 2012 Xmas special. Apparently that season will embrace the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who on the BBC so, of course, superspecial episodes are planned for that event. Contracts are exchanged on a season by season basis so this news doesn't particularly herald the end of Matt's tenancy as Doctor. Martin
