Peter Capaldi explains he had to quit Doctor Who as he was running out of inspiration Peter Capaldi has broken his silence on why he has decided to quit Doctor Who, revealing he was struggling to keep his character interesting. Capaldi announced he was leaving his role as The Doctor in January 2017, having joined the show as the Twelfth Doctor in 2013 and starring in 40 episodes. 'I've never done anything for any length of time,' he admitted to Radio Times 'Even [political comedy] The Thick of It was only 20 episodes over four years. I'll have done 40 episodes of Doctor Who. I don't think if I stayed on I'd be able to think of another way to say, "This could be the end of civilisation as we know it". I've always gone from one job to the other and seen what was around the corner and I want to get back to that.' My two least favourite Doctors - "Shouty" Tennant and "Can't Act For Toffee" Smith - give me a Peter Davison episode any day over these two. Ironically, Tennants father-in-law is Peter Davison. I've been working my way through the whole series from the beginning* for the last we while and I'm up to 'Happiness Patrol' at the moment. * - substituting the BBC Audio releases for the missing episodes.

The four 25 minute missing episodes of the Doctor Who serial The Macra Terror, which were originally part of Doctor Who’s (now mostly lost) fourth season, have been animated for the first time and will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, special edition Steelbook and digital download.
Originally broadcast in four weekly parts from 11th March to 1st April 1967, and starring Patrick Troughton, Anneke Wills, Michael Craze and Frazer Hines, no full episodes of this serial are known to have survived on film. Fortunately for fans, a complete audio recording of all four parts still exists. Now, 52 years later, the four episodes will be brought back to life through the power of animation in both colour and the original black and white, from 18th March 2019.
You can pre-order yours now from Amazon (UK) and HMV (UK).

You bought it because you missed it on TV? It was on BBC America (Season 11) from Oct. 7, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2019. The 12th season will be on sometime in 2020.
