I always thought The Birds was filmed in Bodega and Bodega Bay. I just gave Sebastopol a Google and find it is between Santa Rosa and Bodega Bay. I wonder which scenes were filmed at Sebastopol? Pretty cool that you had an opportunity to visit there!

I was on crutches a few years ago and supposed to stay off my foot. One of the many movies I watched was Rear Window. Where I live, we're all pretty close to our neighbors. You don't need a super zoom lens to watch what's going on. I didn't witness any murders, and Grace Kelly never comes to visit, but it was entertaining enough.

That is such a great movie... All his movies are great tho. Took a film class and it's amazing some of the photo shots Hitchcock uses to cause added drama!!

Lifeboat is pretty impressive. I can't think of any filmmaker alive today who could pull that off. It would either look like a gimmick or be filled with computer animated explosions.

This afternoon at 1:45PM EST: Our Vines have Tender Grapes
Triplets Love Paul:
Our Vines have Tender Grapes Edward G. Robinson, Margaret O'Brien, James Craig, Agnes Moorehead Originally recommended to me by Dave (veggieburgher), this film is outstanding! Highly effectual, pulling on the heartstrings from beginning to end, I consider this film to be a must see, must own, must recommend, classic film Essential. The brilliance of versatility in the acting abilities of Edward G. Robinson displayed in this performance is nothing short of stunning - not at all what one would expect to see from him. As always, the performance delivered by Margaret O'Brien is natural perfection. Absolutely captivating, often the viewer may be overwhelmed by the many amazing moments this film has to offer. Viewing this film will be time well spent, catch it if you can and be sure to have a box of tissues handy, it's a tearjerker! ? Enjoy!!!
In progress, check it out!

It was primarily shot in Bodega Bay, and you can still see many of the buildings used in exterior shots. http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/b/birds.html#.WEeG031_QpI

I had a friend in junior high school who had just moved from California and he told me that The Birds was filmed in his home town. It must have been Bodega because that is where the schoolhouse scene was filmed. Anita, thanks for remembering Vines, my favorite Wisconsin-based film. I also would recommend Come and Get It. Bruce, fortunately Hitchcock moved the setting for Psycho to California. I prefer not to think of it as being representative of my home state.

Funny, I never thought of Psycho as having a specific location. It always seemed to me to be a nightmare that was at once anywhere and everywhere or maybe just in your head. Still one of the great horror movies of all time.

It was based on an actual case but highly fictionalized. If anything it was less sensational. Silence of the Lambs was similarly inspired.

Thanks for letting me know about your friend from Bodega and the filming there! You're welcome, Dave! I LOVE Vines and recommend this film any time the opportunity presents itself. I do not believe I have seen Come and Get It (unless time passed has caused me to forget). I will keep an eye out for this film!

Hi Anita! Sorry it took long for me to respond to your question on The Birds/Sebastopol,Ca./Bodega Bay! I would also like to thank veggieburgher for the answer of Bodega Bay being the area where the school scene was filmed! Sebastopol and Bodega Bay are beautiful places to visit! I will say this but no more but the late Robin Williams' brother lives (Or used to live) in Sebastopol! I know because I met him in Sebastopol! That's a long story in itself!
