I assume the Cooper film was "Pride of the Yankees." You really should have watched it, Susy. It is one of the all time great "biopics."
SusyLuvsPaul:
Yes, Cooper played Lou Gerig
Susy, do try to catch this one! Dave is spot on, Pride of the Yankees is a fantastic film! If you are not already in love with Gary Cooper, you will be after seeing this film. If you have access to On Demand, you will find Pride of the Yankees available until the 11th.
-
Thoroughly enjoying 31 Days of Oscar and thus far have been able to view the following: Camille Random Harvest Humoresque Magnificent Obsession Imitation of Life Little Women (1933) North by Northwest Mutiny on the Bounty Somebody Up There Likes Me Pride of the Yankees Swing Time The Awful Truth Bonnie and Clyde Captains Courageous Little Women (1949) Wanted to watch Little Caesar, but the timing was not good for me. Will try to catch this one On Demand. Later today and this evening, I am looking forward to Splendor in the Grass, Rebel Without a Cause, Wuthering Heights, and Gone with the Wind.

** and as an extremely small small thing ..... you can hear the song "Always" (Which Paul sang on Kisses On The Bottom) .... I did see that Pride of the Yankees was playing .... saw a sample of it .... I was doing something at the time ..... one of those movies that I have seen parts here and there .... and that I am likely to watch it as an entire movie one of these days ... (I did see it a long time ago ...... recently catching parts of it .... just not all of it).

OT: I still wish he would add that to his setlist. Anita, there are some real tearjerkers on that list. Of course, any good movie can be if it means something special to the viewer. For Nancy and me the other day it was Singin' in the Rain during "You Were Meant for Me."
-
^ Awwwww, Dave, that's lovely! Thrilled to know that Nancy is once again feeling up to enjoying classic film with you. Cherished are these little moments in life that bring so much comfort and joy! Whilst on this path, Pride of the Yankees will always be particularly special to me as this was the first classic film that my husband and I watched (together) which was awesome for two classic film and baseball fans. We kissed for the first time during the singing of 'Always.' ops: I will never forget that moment! As to Paul adding 'Ever Present Past' to his set list, how great that would be! We would LOVE this addition!

Thanks for sharing the special memory, Anita. Have you ever listened to Groucho's stage show? He ends with his rendition of "Always."

Yes, thank you for sharing a special Memory Anita Dave and Nancy, I continue to send Good thoughts your way

I do not believe that I have ever heard Groucho's stage show and have no recollection of hearing him perform 'Always.' I just gave it a quick search via Google and YouTube, but came up empty-handed. If you have a link, please share!

Well, here is the full show:
Always is at 46:45. I misremembered where it appeared. Also, it is a brief performance but, hey, it's Groucho! -
Thanks so much, Dave! I saw this whilst searching, but not finding 'Always' at the end, figured I had it wrong. Unfortunately, I am not currently finding 'Always' at 46:45. ops: I will listen to the entire show, no doubt I will enjoy this! Thanks again!
-
I wish I had seen "Splendor in the Grass" and the Gary Cooper Lou Gerig film bio, now They will show these again eventually

Found it! ops: Lovely and funny! Great show thus far, never a disappointment with Groucho!

Last night's theme was Love, Italian Style. We watched Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn, and very early this morning we watched Gidget Goes to Rome.
I saw Roman Holiday in Rome with Italian subtitles. It's not a great story, but I'll remember it.

This list is much better than what HBO is doing here for the Oscars. They have their 28 movies in February, but none are more than a few years old. Her All is Lost American Hustle Captain Phillips Gravity The Great Gatsby (the new one) Argo The Lego Movie American Beauty Forest Gump The last two are in the "classics" category.

"The Mark" with Stuart Whitman and Rod Steiger was amazing, aired this afternoon on TCM--its subject matter dealt with Whitman having strong pedophile tendencies (which he fought against) and he was "healed" in the end but not "cured," an ambiguous conclusion made by his psychiatrist Steiger. Whitman's character was pronounced "well" and reunited with a grown woman he had fallen for and her small daughter, the inference made they would marry and be a family, that the little girl loved him as a father and he loved her as a daughter. How often has this happened in real life--several times, I've read pedophiles can't really be cured. That they can't change. There's always an exception to the rule, perhaps. Whitman's performance was outstanding. I was surprised that a 1950s film was made about this issue.

Abusing children wasn't all that taboo in the '50s.
