I want to know who gave Robby a driver's license?
-
^ "The driver must be a madman!" Lots of fun lines delivered in this film, one that makes me laugh every time: Altaira Morbius: "Where have you been? I've beamed and beamed." Robby: "Sorry miss, I was giving myself an oil-job."
-
Everyone and everything on that planet, had something for him to do it seemed.
-
I was doing something else with television as background ... Took a few breaks with Forbidden Planet Enjoyed what I did see and did hear some of those quotes

Friday Night Spotlight in May: Orson Welles 19 films including tonight's fascinating powerhouse kickoff beginning at 8PM EDT: Citizen Kane The Magnificent Ambersons Jane Eyre LOVE Welles' early films! Looking forward to Jane Eyre with one of my favorites, Joan Fontaine! Be sure to look for Elizabeth Taylor's uncredited portrayal of Helen Burns.

The common element appears to be Joseph Cotten, although he does not appear in Jane Eyre. I like to look for the commonalities in TCM's daily schedule. For example, they (slyly) just showed a Marion Davies film (Ever Since Eve). Working girl comedies from the 30's seems to be a thread this afternoon. You can also play x degrees of separation. Quiz question: Who is the link which can connect the cast of Ever Since Eve and The Magnificent Ambersons?

Always cool to spot the connections in the daily running films. Spot on with both working girls (specifically secretaries) and Joseph Cotten. Looking forward to Cotten's performance in Lydia later this evening/early morning.

Sam Rice links the casts of Ever Since Eve and The Magnificent Ambersons. If that is your easy starter, I will have to put some time in thought in an effort to stump you!

I don't know who Sam Rice is. I was thinking of Elizabeth Montgomery, Robert's daughter and costar of Agnes Moorehead on Bewitched. I guess that was kind of convoluted.

Orson Welles was larger than life. That's a comment on his talent, not his appetite.

I did not know of Sam Rice until last week. ops: I like your connection much better! My friend Mary (unsername lindafan) has created a bucket list. One of the items on her list is acting (background talent). She searched for open casting calls, found one, and was given the nod to return. The scene was shot over and over, and over, and over, you get the picture! She worked overnight into the early morning hours chatting with other background talent between takes. She received a quick education about background talent including the fact that much of the same background talent appear in multiple films. They are uncredited and very often do not make the final edit, etc. Whilst Mary was telling me of her experience, she was wondering if she would make the final cut. I am a member of a film society. I met with members last week. Amongst society members, there is an elderly gentleman whom I LOVE to speak with. He is a living classic film Google search, teaching me something new every time we chat. He possesses a wealth of information on background talent. I shared bits and pieces of Mary's background talent experience and how she wondered if she would make the final edit. This led to a chat about background talent. His favorite classic film is Citizen Kane (which of course was forthcoming on TCM's Friday Night Spotlight). Along with other background talent, he told of Sam Rice who is uncredited in many films, naming a few including Citizen Kane and Ever Since Eve. He further informed that Sam Rice also worked on The Magnificent Ambersons, but did not make the final edit. Sam Rice: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0723542/ I was quite amused with the fact that I had just been told of Sam Rice and his connection between Ever Since Eve and The Magnificent Ambersons and then subsequently asked to make the connection - enter The Twilight Zone theme.

Just more evidence of our psychic connection, Anita.

I came across "Paris When It Sizzles" DVD starring Audrey Hepburn and William Holden, notable for being the movie they made together years after "Sabrina" in which they fell in love and had an affair in real life, a profound connection (a new book: "Audrey and Bill" is about their love) which sizzled but later fizzled. So it must have been a bit awkward they made another romantic comedy together although not in love anymore. But having to pretend in the movie they're in love. I recently obtained "Splendor in the Grass," and "Mogumbo" with Gable, Gardner and Grace Kelly, "Now Voyager" starring Bette Davis, and "Love in the Afternoon" with Audrey Hepburn and Gary Cooper, on DVD all put out on video by TCM

Citizen Kane is another of many films that I used to watch in pieces ..... knew the film ... so one day I saw it just start and knew that I would watch it from start to finish as it should be seen ..... I don't know if I will catch the Orson Welles films or not .... but I know that they are there ... instead of a channel surf and catch 'em type of thing .... Thanks for posting these and other films of the night, month etc....
-
Citizen Kane is great, of course, but Chimes at Midnight is one of the most amazing things ever. It probably helps if you're familiar with the plays, but either way, everything about the film works. The Battle of Shrewsbury scene is brilliant all on its own.

All great films to add to your collection, Susy! LOVE Splendor in the Grass! In my opinion, Natalie's finest performance! Impossible to watch Splendor without a box of tissues handy. Glad to see Now Voyager in the group. I hope you will be able to watch this film in a different frame of mind from your last attempt. I think in the proper place and time you will enjoy this one.

Too bad you are not in the States at this time. For those who may be interested, Chimes at Midnight will air Friday the 15th.

There are places to see the entire thing online, but I don't want to promote piracy. Fortunately, there are also DVDs.
