TCM and Classic Film Discussion in General

Speaking of Shirley Temple
What I always notice about this scene is how she laughs when she misses her step. Children today would probably cry or be terrified over how their parents/handlers would react, but Shirley is clearly having a good time here. -
^ I was unable to remain awake for the airing of The Poor Little Rich Girl. Great scene, thanks so much for posting!

Heard on the radio last night that a lot of Shirley related memorabalia is being auctioned off. The dress she wore when singing Good Ship Lollipop is up and I heard that a small Steinway? piano that she played sold for $45,000.
-
^ Shirley's Steinway included a personal inscription from Steinway. Shirley's dress from Stand Up and Cheer sold for $75,000. Whilst reading about the auction, I came across this picture of Shirley and her daughter Lori with The Beatles.

Today... James Dean Giant (11:45AM EDT) Rebel Without a Cause (3:15PM EDT)

^ Extremely cool pic, Anita!!! She was a very accomplished person in her adult life as well.

I just saw Twilight's Last Gleaming with Burt Lancaster, Richard Widmark, Charles Durning and Paul Winfield. Much better than the Michael Bay remake.

That and The Tingler crossing the movie screen are classic horror images!
-
^ Most definitely, Steve! The Tingler

Heads-up Lucy/Desi fans... Today at 3:15PM EDT: The Long, Long Trailer Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz LOVE this film! The body language delivered by and exchanged between Lucy and Desi is priceless!
-
The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) - just watched tonight. It's head & shoulders above most science fiction movies of the day. No doubt it influence movies such as ET, etc. I'm sure they will be showing it more this week and/or month
-
I got "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers" DVD starring Alan Arkin, Paula Prentiss and Sally Kellerman, based on a Neil Simon play. It's funny. And another classic, "A Patch of Blue" with Sidney Poitier, and Shelly Winters and Elizabeth Hartman. Very touching and poignant. Someone gave me the "Waterfront" movie w/ Marlon Brando. I already had it. It's a good 'un albeit a bit too macho with its boxing theme.

Today's Summer Under the Stars honoree is Ingrid Bergman which means that as we are approaching 8PM EDT it is time to break out a box of tissues, curl up on the sofa, and settle in for an airing of Casablanca! Sooooo much chemistry!!! Looking forward to Gaslight following Casablanca! Thoroughly enjoying Summer Under the Stars!

"They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" ordered on DVD. A classic with Jane Fonda, Gig Young, Red Buttons.

I saw The Caine Mutiny again. I completely forgot about the Yosemite sequence. When you think Caine Mutiny, you think of boat and court scenes, not Yosemite. But I liked how they actually filmed some of it in the park. There was not a single CGI backdrop in sight.
