TCM and Classic Film Discussion in General
-
Saw part of one of my all time faves, "The Misfits," last night on TCM. A true classic. Screenplay by Arthur Miller. Stars Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Eli Wallach, Montgomery Clift, and Thelma Ritter. Dream cast. And an awesome story with great acting. At the end, Marilyn even tells Clark's character she wants to have his baby. It seemed clear that was her meaning, this time. Other times I watched I wasn't quite sure about the ending. Seemed unlikely. The characters were all damaged in some way, which was very skillfully depicted. Heartaches, regrets, traumas, they each had a lot of baggage. Monroe's character was very sensitive. Always hurting over how animals were mistreated. The animal rights activists and veggies here would have liked to have seen that. She was almost too sensitive for this world. She empathized with people as well.

Great list of films, Susy! LOVE Camille and Greta Garbo's compelling Oscar nominated performance, one that I consider to be her finest. The chemistry between Greta Garbo and Robert Taylor...... Joanne Woodward's Oscar-winning performance in The Three Faces of Eve is mesmerizing! Very, very well done! Bell, Book and Candle...... Wonderful performances offered by Marilyn in both River of No Return and The Misfits. Cape Fear is one of those unforgettable films - truly frightening!

Tonight's Essential Jr. (8PM EDT)... The Incredible Shrinking Man So happy to see this film appear on the Essentials Jr. schedule. This is a very cool film, one that I have always enjoyed. Given the time period, the special effects are very well done. This film is one that I always suggest in an effort to introduce the joys of classic film to young teens, particularly boys. The Incredible Shrinking Man is a film that when seen at the right age will be remembered well into adulthood with a treasured memory and anticipation of seeing it once again. See this one if you can, definitely worth your time!

Tuesdays in July Star of the Month, Paul Henreid 27 Films Tonight at 8PM EDT... Now, Voyager Bette Davis, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains Wonderful film with Bette Davis offering one of her finest performances for which she earned an Oscar nomination. Claude Rains is noteworthy in his role which he originally turned down, but later accepted after the part was made more substantial for him. Paul Henreid is best remembered for a scene in which he lights two cigarettes with one match, one for himself, the other for Bette Davis:
A must see film and a classic film collection Essential. -

Tonight, two moving films directed by Douglas Sirk: Magnificent Obsession 8:00PM EDT Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman Jane Wyman picked up an Oscar nomination for her touching portrayal of a woman blinded in an accident caused by a reckless playboy type. Rock Hudson is determined to right his wrong and becomes magnificently obsessed with curing Jane Wyman. Quite a bit of drama, but a good film that is worth seeing. Imitation of Life 10PM EDT Lana Turner, Sandra Dee, Susan Kohner, Juanita Moore Susan Kohner and Juanita Moore both received Oscar nominations for their strong supporting performances. Fine performances are also offered from Lana Turner and Sandra Dee.
