I fell asleep about an hour in. ops: I am no match for a dimly lit room softly illuminated by multicolor tree lights and warmed by a roaring fireplace. ops: Hope you enjoyed the film!

Tonight's Essential... The Way We Were (8:00 PM EST) Fine performances offered from both Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand, earning Streisand an Oscar nomination. Good chemistry between the two. Love Affair (10:15 PM EST) Lovely film offering great chemistry between Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer. Now Voyager (Midnight EST) Wonderful film with Bette Davis offering one of her finest performances for which she earned an Oscar nomination. A must see film and a classic film collection Essential. Claude Rains is noteworthy in his role which he originally turned down, but later accepted after the part was built up for him.

After working all day...it didn't take me long...and I was out too. It was interesting to see some familiar old faces as young actors at the beginning.

When Ben Mankiewicz introduced Love Affair he indicated that those of us that had joined in for the airing of The Way We Were were probably still crying - he was spot on! Wow, I had not seen The Way We Were in quite a while and had completely forgotten just how incredibly heartbreaking this film is, what a tearjerker!!!

Dave, this was a great read, thanks so much for posting, very much appreciated! LOVE Robert Osborne for many reasons, particularly for the commendable effort and attention that he has put forth in keeping classic film in the forefront, a brilliant gentleman! I like Alec Baldwin and have followed his film career with a fair amount of attention. I had seen him in six films, and then, a fan of Nicole Kidman as well, had gone to see Malice. I walked away from that film thinking that Baldwin was the most handsome man that I had ever seen up to that point in time. ops: I was absolutely thrilled when he joined Osborne at TCM, it was a dream team for me! I was very sad to see Baldwin move on.

Tonight's Essential... To Have and Have Not 8:00 PM EST Lauren Bacall makes a stunning entrance in this, her film debut. The chemistry between Bacall and Bogart is palpable!!! LOVE the cinematography! Great use of angles and lighting, good, classic material! Although her film debut, Bacall delivered one of the most recognized lines in film history. Bogart's reaction to Lauren's delivery is priceless...
"You know you don't have to act with me, Steve. You don't have to say anything, and you don't have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow." ~ Lauren Bacall as Marie 'Slim' Browning in To Have and Have Not -
I thought you would enjoy the interview, Anita. I have a lot of respect for Osborne. So happy he turned down the job at AMC.

It's a blow not to have TCM presently, but "Cinemoi" somewhat fills that void. Had never heard of that cable movie channel before. It showed "Suddenly Last Summer" and "Lilith" last night and will show "Suddenly" again tonight. Elizabeth Taylor, I fear, over acted in the already over the top Tennessee Williams film. Some bad acting from her in that, I'm afraid. Still none can deny she had something.

This is a great article, thanks for posting. I love classic movies and I love TCM! I don't get to watch it as much as I 'd like tho TCM usually has a good schedule around Oscar time, I believe they show the past Best Picture winners and nominees, among others.....

Yes, Michelle, March is Oscar month on TCM. However, I prefer to watch more obscure films which I haven't seen before. That's where TCM really rules! I recorded the Loretta Young films which ran last night, all from the 1930s and many of them pre-code.
