Looking forward to the Eclipse if it is clear outside that day https://eclipse.aas.org/eclipse-america/when-where
Took that week off and trying to figure out which area has the most sunny days!!! Can't wait!!! Thanks for posting that link too!!
I just got a vacation day okay'd. It is the day of the eclipse I actually was taking it for Something else and then it Hit me - Alright! Now I am hoping It is clear or mostly clear. If so ... I would see 80 to 90 %
-
I also have a couple days off, trying to figure out whether I can find a nonstop flight to somewhere there is a full eclipse. I tried to visit my old hometown, it would have been 3 planes each way, or a 2 hour car car ride each way!!! So about 16 hours for the best fare Hopefully there's a train somewhere, or I can rent a car... to get closer... I really hope to find a good place!!!ð???

From what I've been hearing, Beatrice, NE could turn into a zoo. Especially, if it winds up cloudy there and everyone starts scrambling to another place. Hopefully, it works out for everyone!

Going to finalize something this weekend. I really want to see the full eclipse... may try Illinois. It shouldn't be that difficult to fly to these eclipse locations, but it's just not worth it, taking 3 flights and a long drive to see the eclipse. Last year (I think)was thinking of going to Bali area for an Eclipse. It seemed easier than this I drove straight out to Ann Arbor once in about 14 hours, so maybe, I'll drive...I remember Illinois was before Michigan so I can do 10 hours easy, if I rent a comfortable car. Met a lady at a Timothy B Schmidt concert, think she may have a room for me, if I can find her number. ð???ð???ð???

Take a second look at location time and distance. I was goofing around on Timeanddate.com You can pin different places on the Eclipse band... See the percent And scroll through by clicking a 2D and 3D animation (just a basic one that gives an idea) ... Interesting to me... Some might roll their eyes and shrug. To each chizzone.

A safer way to see the eclipse is to do what I used to do as a youth. If you have a 2 to 3 inch diameter magnifying glass, you can project the image onto a piece of flat (non shiny) cardboard. DO NOT focus the image of the sun to a pinpoint or you may burn the cardboard. You can do this with any bright light source. I used to do this with the window and when adjusted properly you could see the image outside the window, like trees and such. It works on the same principal as the optical lens camera. This way, you are not looking directly at the sun, which is dangerous to your eyes.

* caution - watch out for viewing things such as sunglasses- that don't comply With standards - but are labeled so. My immediate boss does what can to get the work done. I say this because he has a casual side to him ... He wanted people in Our area to come up with ways to View the eclipse I reminded him that it is my day off And he said okay you don't have to come In then to show what you came up with I am glad that they will try to get out And see it - if conditions are right.

In the office I work in, we are all taking about an hour or so on 8/21 to go outside and view the eclipse. Hoping the eclipse viewing glasses we ordered arrive in time.

Head's UP!... if anyone ordered their glasses from Amazon. Heard last night on the radio that Amazon recalled them because they were deficient. "Amazon recalls glasses 9 days before total solar eclipse" http://www.oregonlive.com/eclipse/2017/08/amazon_recalls_glasses_9_days.html

Thanks Steve, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do...going to check a couple of Local Libraries for glasses. May have to build one of these again. The sun looks so tiny in these...May wind up ordering solar binoculars today. https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/box-pinhole-projector.html It's a bit scary thinking of the unscrupulous manufactures of glasses that can injure so many peoples eyes.

Thankfully my coworker did not order them from Amazon! Everybody needs to be careful when ordering eclipse glasses, there are a lot of counterfeit versions out there that won't protect your eyes.

Here is the projected cloudy weather chart. Where I live, the skies look clear with 70% totality. Just tried to get a hotel in a few places that I can drive to. All sold out. May have to stay further away and then drive closer early in the morning...another adventure, fly by the seat of my pants trip... some of those can turn out the best.... https://www.citylab.com/environment/2017/08/where-clouds-might-ruin-the-solar-eclipse/536529/

I heard that a more interesting way to spend the time of the eclipse is just to watch and listen to everything going on around as things get darker. Birds start singing, street lights come on and people react in different ways.

I love in the early morning and evening, when the birds start twittering...it's so beautiful where I live... There are so many birds in the early morning, the Cicadas just started a couple of days ago... It's been so overcast lately with rain. Sure hope we don't get walloped by the sun!

I heard my first Cicada chorus walking home at dusk last night. Beautiful!!!

It brings back memories of my Dad showing us one that got stuck molting on the Sycamore tree, when I was about 8 or 9 years old. That kind of thing blows your little mind... We used to listen to them while sitting on the porch with my dad, watching for falling stars, to make a wish on. You could see the stars and the Milky Way so clearly back then...
