Counting One's Blessings: The Selected Letters of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother ~ Edited and with an introduction by William Shawcross
That sounds good
Hi Denise, this is indeed a very good book!
I enjoy communicating via letters, particularly in friendship and LOVE. Spoken words of friendship and LOVE are wonderful, but we experience them for only that moment in time. In letters, we are able to treasure written words for a lifetime and beyond. I LOVE the art of romance and found myself completely captivated whilst reading the numbered letters of Nicholas and Alexandra.
Since reading those, I have been fascinated with reading the letters of historical figures. Their letters are so useful in gathering a sense of time and place in understanding historical events, both public and private. I am most taken with friendship turning to LOVE through the use of letters. Gathering the deepening of affections as the words become more intense through the passage of time, so heartfelt and genuine - the words become palpable!
One of the most endearing attributes that I have gathered from reading the Queen Mother's letters is how genuinely affectionate she was. Much to my surprise, without reservation, she openly expressed her affection on a regular basis. The manner in which she addressed those that were dear to her heart both in friendship and love was very sweet. In addition, her words lead me to believe that she was a very grateful person. This book is a lovely read, one that I highly recommend!

A big tome on Orson Welles. A book on George Carlin, he wasn't one of my faves, but holds some interest for me. A little. He was a very watered down version of Lenny Bruce, a lot of them were, then. Very inspired by Lenny Bruce. The recent bestselling novel "Sisterland" about psychic twins. Fairly scintillating novel.
