I finished Tai-Pan and am now reading Noble House by James Clavell. I prefer to read books in hardcover and I have Noble House in hardcover. But it's so big--1,206 pages--that the hardcover is very awkward and heavy to handle. Plus I love to read in bed while lying on my back. I was afraid if I dropped this book, it would crush my skull (or at least break my nose). So I invested in a paperback copy. When people say "some books are dangerous", they have no idea just how right they are sometimes.
I also have Noble House in paper back. I may have let it lightly drop. Which I could not risk with a Hardcover.
I finally finished the Noble House I had read 1/2 of it .... never really kept a continuity going -- (other things happening) and would read a few days - then skip some etc... I put it down and read about 4 or more books by other writers. Then I decided to start all over again from the very beginning ... I read and read and read and read -- and enjoyed it this time through to the end .... the strange thing is .... I miss it some ways -- I think I may find another of his such as Tai- Pan

Plato - Gorgias

I'm reading "Ya Yas in Bloom" - the sequel to "Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood". Like most sequels it's not as good as the original. I'm just biding my time until my hubby finishes "Marley and Me"

Noble House didn't move as smoothly as Clavell's other novels. I enjoyed it but I think Clavell crammed too much into too short a timespan. Tai-pan is a much better read. I would also highly recommend Shogun. I think that's Clavell's best novel. And the mini-series made from it is excellent as well.

No I haven't read that. But am putting it on the top of my list as I am looking for some new reading and I really liked bees and The Mermaids Chair. She is an interesting writer very organic with some spiritual themes. Thanks for the recommendation Liz

Vivien, it's quite different from "bees"; its subtitle is "A Woman's Journey From Christisn Tradition To The Sacred Feminine". It's more difficult to read (at least it was for me ops: ) but I still could not put it down once I had started reading. Just wanted to tell you to avoid disappointment.
