My sister-in-law gave me "Eat......Pray.....Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert for Christmas, and I've been enjoying it a lot. I came across this paragraph today, and thought I'd share it with you all, since it reminded me of what Paul said about turning to music for comfort and solace during difficult times: "In a world of disorder and disaster and fraud, sometimes only beauty can be trusted. Only artistic excellence is incorruptible. Pleasure cannot be bargained down........ "To devote yourself to the creation and enjoyment of beauty, then, can be a serious business---not necessarily a means of escaping reality, but sometimes a means of holding on to the real when everything else is flaking away into....rhetoric and plot."

Jane Eyre~Charlotte Bronte not that I haven't read it before.
That's a book well worth reading again! I first read it when I was 11 and I read it again about every two or three years. Not only does it have a great plot and wonderful characters, the language is just so beautiful.

Saving Charlie, the Heroes novel. It's a good one... but a bit of an easy read.

reading A.Watts..Wisdom of Insecurity..Great book..Highly recommended..

What's that one about, if you don't mind me asking?? I'm always in the market for new books. I've read everything on my shelves over and over again, they're tattered and torn - I'm now at the point of book need that I will buy books as the spirit leads me, just so I'll have something to read! ((And by "as the spirit leads me" I mean "oh look, a book, I'm bored, BUY IT!"))

if you are asking me it is about our insecurities or fears of connecting could be actuall our biggest assest to understand the human reality as well universal one, when both connected , here comes the wisdom A.Watts e genius himself wrote a great book..it is a short book but believe me tells you so much..I always read books help me to think for myself, or to start a new inner adventure to find about myself. I also found great help from the notes collected by his listeners J.D.KRISHNAMURTI...Never tells you whats right or wrong, by listening him you find your own answers yourself..But one must read many times since he does not answer directly...If you know any good books which gives great insight about life please let me knowthanks

For me there is no such thing crazy, bein yourself is accepting your uniqeness in this universe so do what your heart desires friend.

SurSteven thanks sharing the beauty of this message with us..I think unhappiness comes when people try to change things. Even love becomes so crystalized during this process it falls apart..Let the cosmic tunes be heard in harmony in ever heart

I was talking about Philosophical Explanations - yeah, it IS very complicated. I understood a bit of what I read, I should try it again. I'm now a lot more mature with my math knowledge, and have actually read up a LOT on John Nash's Chaos Theory.... so maybe it'll be easier?

I read Watts' "The Book..." many years ago, which was brilliant. Haven't read this one, but I've put it on my list. It seems to me that any GOOD book will give you great insights about life. That's what makes a book good, isn't it? There are so many---both fiction and non-fiction, I wouldn't know where to start. In fact, "Eat....Pray.....Love" is a good book that gives good insights, and is really pleasant to read. I can't enjoy a book that's written in a style that isn't enjoyable to read. I know there are many books that are deep and ponderous, but if they're written in a style that's not enjoyable, I can't stay with it. To me, a book is like a companion; if it's not enjoyable company, why bother? The mysteries of life can be revealed in many ways.

Gracious lady you put it so nicely, with a great wisdom. I can see you read many good books I will check also other books which members mentioned here.Yes, same here, I have 10 pages limit, I continue or discontinue .I will check this topic very often to see if new book suggestions here. About mysteries of universe, is the universe a mystery, or the truth is very simple itself, and our illuisons we create warp it to a degree it becomes mysterious..Never figure that one out.

I?m reading the book Management of the Absurd: Paradoxes in Leadership by Richard Farson, a psychologist who is is president of the Western Behavioral Sciences Institute (WBSI), an independent, nonprofit organization devoted to research, education and advanced study in human affairs. It?s a very insightful book and useful for anyone to read, not just managers. Michael Crichton wrote the forward to it. Richard Farson?s website is http://www.wbsi.org/farson/home.htm It?s an interesting site.
