guns, germs and steel by jared diamond. it is such an amazing book! it is a great source to understand the development of humans and the social and political changes. it starts with the hunters/gatherers and gives great examples from near history. the question it is seeking to answer is "why some societies discovered the others or technology sooner?" and the best thing is it has no racist side. totally scientific. a must-read! actually i am off to read some more!

I saw a documentary with the same title, based on Pizzaro's encounters with the Incan empire. It was amazing. Has anyone read the book The Virgin Suicides? I want to read it, but I need some reviews first.

I'm in a John Grisham mood now. I just finished The Testament and now I'm reading The Runaway Jury.

Just finished this one ...and have now started...

I'm reading Tai-Pan by James Clavell. I love his books. They're very long but his writing is very tight--there's just a great deal going on. If you want to escape into another time and place in history, his books will take you there.

I finished Tai-Pan and am now reading Noble House by James Clavell. I prefer to read books in hardcover and I have Noble House in hardcover. But it's so big--1,206 pages--that the hardcover is very awkward and heavy to handle. Plus I love to read in bed while lying on my back. I was afraid if I dropped this book, it would crush my skull (or at least break my nose). So I invested in a paperback copy. When people say "some books are dangerous", they have no idea just how right they are sometimes.
