Fascinating little scene this Sunday morning: We are experiencing an exceptional (for the UK) period officially defined as a heatwave. Weekends are the norm for tending and mowing lawns and there's always the issue of what is a tactful, sociable, start time for firing up lawnmowers. I'd usually wait until about 10.00 as a reasonable respectful start time - I'd do a bit of weed-pulling and get the lawnmower out and fuelled before that but hold back turning the motor before then. Not so this weekend the first mower broke cover at 08.00 on Sunday which triggered a mad rush - there were four of us out with our machines all laughing with each other at the situation before rushing back in to shelter from the heat. No issues with dew making the clippings damp and cloggy. The heat is slowing grass growth now with little rain recently or forecast I can't see the need to be so keen next weekend
No change in conditions expected for the next week at least. Martin

How polite of you to wait until 10. My neighbor has started doing his lawn on Sat mornings at 7am. I'm actually coming back from breakfast by then but it is too early to be making that much noise.

It's been so horribly hot & humid this week, DH couldn't mow. Hopefully things will be cooler soon. In the meantime, our pineapple plant is going to need a bigger pot - a baby pineapple has just started to grow right next to the original one!

Gosh, that's too bad. Last year and year before, we had a drought. Trees, bushes and even perennials died and didn't come back. Hope you're not having a drought, as well.

My husband just bought orange morning glory seeds to plant next season. Looking forward to many new flowers to plant for next year. Have to trim holly bush back again - it's getting a bit unruly.
