didn't you water anything LPBride? All I have is tomatoes but we;ve been watering every few days. Just the garden not the lawn. We already have some tomatoes.
Sure did..but it's just not the same as rain. We do have some tomatoes but most all the rest are just not producing! It's also the spot we planted..too much SUN!!
well, they *do* need the sun but yep...also water. This year has just been terrible. Mine have sooo many branches...they are about 4' tall but not that many tomatoes. I think it was too hot & not enough water but I usually get bunches of them more towards the end of Aug.
It's been so hot here, the sun has baked everything!! We have shrubs that are turning brown 'cause they are too close to the brick on the porch. Most other yrs. they were fine but not this yr.
We have 5 trees that died not from the weather but from the emerald ash borer. I wonder where those little buggers will go now that they ate all my ash trees. Next they will prolly attack the willows.

Lord, the thunderstorm this afternoon was bloomin' close.....one minute I'm slurping a Hoppety Hare and scoffing a fig roll the next there's a big bolt of lightning up me butt and the power goes off to the sound of crashing thunder right overhead.....I sprayed me biscuit all over the floor! Must have been just over the road. The garden was wrecked after.....all that rain, all my new plants.... It's not good for a man of my advanced years to have a shock like that!

Just like getting out my gardening tools and lawnmower it's time to bump this seasonal topic, blow off the cobwebs and start the seasonal chat again. My, what a winter, snow at Easter and my car was again covered in ice/frost again overnight and tomorrow is the start of May! The shrubs and garden are wildly confused with little growth yet. I'm on holiday, leave taken to coincide with the May Bank holiday next week to sneakily extend my leave by an extra day - but no other major plans. Oh, other than get my car through it's annual MOT test and major service... That happened yesterday and my 11 year old motor passed with only minor repairs required and I (and my bank balance) can breath a sign of relief. So now my mind turns to the garden as the weather is finally fit to spend time in the garden. For the first time ever I've been able to do a major shrub cut-back while the branches are free from foliage - makes for less work removing the cuttings My main focus today has been the plot of land over the road the estate developers craftily attached to my deeds making me responsible for cutting the grass and keeping the shrubs in order. The last few years have seen the shrubs extend themselves over the lawn area - indeed dropping suckers into the lawn where their limbs touched the ground. Well I decided to take control of that again and have trimmed the shrubs back about a yard/metre. The resultant trimming still took three car journeys to the council recycling yard for disposal - would have been more had any foliage grown. The lawn under where the shrubs had grown has lost it's grass so I might have to find some grass seed to encourage the grass to regrow. Having trimmed and removed the shrubs, I got the lawnmower out for it's first outing, it's this lawnmower's first year overwintering in the shed and it behaved well firing on the second heave on the cord and running steadily throughout. Light trim first - indeed in some areas the cut seemed to make no difference the grass growth is so uneven this year - probably weather related. First cut without the grass box. I'll look-see how it responds and may even make another cut at a lower depth later this week. Still some more work for me this week, cutting back some shrubbery in the back garden and possibly even start looking for bedding plants for my front lawn bed. Maybe a trip to a car boot sale beckons for bedding plants - then next regular sale is Thursday Morning - weather permitting still. Although with frost still around it might be a tad early - possibly buy and keep indoors in my conservatory until warmer... The hay fever specialists forecast a possible Perfect Storm scenario ahead as the tree/shrub pollen release has been delayed into the flower/grass pollen season by the unusual weather - fortunately I don't suffer but have many friends and colleagues that will most likely be. Anyway, the World Snooker Championships is on TV the whole week so I reluctantly have to force myself indoors again from the great outdoor adventure Martin

Mine needs sorting out a good prune and bushes trimmed

We are having some bushes replaced that the neighbor ripped out. They were his but they were there for 25+ years. Now I have to spend big money to replace them. Wish I could see the neighbor's face when they get planted.

So, they were on his property or yours?

They were on the lot line. They were his but he just moved in & he has been ripping all the trees & bushes out. Totally took away the nice private patio we had. Well, hopefully the nursery will come soon.

Neighbors on both sides of us have redbuds. Need I say more? I will pay $500 to anyone who will come and pull them all out by the roots in our yard. Yes, there are a lot.

Really? I have a redbud that is just past it's prime. But it's been fine for 25 years. Now it sent out a shoot & another couple are starting to grow. This landscaper that's supposed to plant our evergreen hedge said to be careful when cutting branches off the redbud...use alcohol to clean the cutter... diseases.
