Charlotte, NC - Time Warner Arena - 7/28/10 - ARCHIVE
-
I taped it as well but the tape quality now is just about shot, it hasn't held up very well over 17 years. It's aggravating that the commercial breaks cut out Every Night, Off the Ground, and rob us of the Hey Jude ending. The traffic at the concert was horrible since, if you weren't sitting in the reserved seat area, you had to get there really early to claim a good space on the ground. I had forgotten about this so had a long wait to get in and then up to our reserved seats. It will be great having the Great One back in the Queen City.

Also, I think Paperback Writer from Charlotte made it to Paul is Live as well. Its quite the rocking version, a good bit uptempo with a rollicking backbeat from Blair...I watched it a million times on VHS , still have it and should convert it to DVD But to have Paul at an indoor show ( I saw the opening night of the Valen Halen reunion tour here too) will be all killer, no filler...

I had the "lawn" seats for that concert. I was on vacation when they went on sale and only thing left was the "lawn" seats. Got there fairly early so I was not totally in the back. Traffic was horrible and still is for the venue, think it was called "Blockbuster" back then. Funny thing is my wife and I needed a babysitter so we could attend the show in 1993, this time our college aged daughter are going with us to the concert.

Neat how this thing spans generat ions now, isn't it? My son was three years old when we caught the 1989/90 tour and of course he stayed home. He finally got to see him in Atlanta in 2005, with his girlfriend along. When I saw Paul last summer at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, the audience was definitely on the younger side, made me feel like an elderly person even though I am in my 50s and not quite there yet.
-
John, just thought you'd like to know that my friend who is taking chemo will be able to attend the Charlotte show since it's so close to us. Wish we could've gotten better seats for her though.
-
Glad she can make it, that will do her good...where are your seats?
-
We're in Section 3, Row P. They aren't bad seats, but we're worried about the height factor, and if she might have to sit for a few songs her view will be blocked.
-
We are up aways in Section 115. Your seats there are sort of like what I have for Toronto, that end area opposite the stage on the lower level. I have never been to Time Warner Arena to know how much of an incline there is that helps provide clearance for those seated, trying to see over someone that might be standing. Seems I have heard that this is a well-designed arena though.

I have not sat in the floor seats at Time Warner but don't believe there is any incline at all. Obviously, there is a incline for the 100 & 200 sections.

I am in the 1st row of sec 116!!!!!!

You are at the other end of the arena from the stage but down low which is real nice. You will be able to see over anybody standing on the floor. BTW - Sound system is great and they huge monitors. Have fun !!!

I want to warn any McCartney fans going to Charlotte concert that the crowds at shows are usually pretty "blah". Unfortunately, most of the crowd at concerts I have seen here are there because it is the "in" thing to do that week and not because they love the artist.. Don't expect most of this crowd to have a clue or react very warmly to any song that is not a Beatle song. That being said, it is up to us on this board to "motivate' the people in our section to dance, sing and give McCartney some enthusiam. I know my family is "ready to rock", especially my youngest daughter. Actually, I get a big kick out of my classically trained ballet dancer (majoring in dance at Florida State Uuniversity) rocking and rolling and showing off different "dance moves".

Don't worry, I'll be screaming the loudest during non-Beatle tunes and if I hear "McCartney should just play all Beatles.." again then I'm going to punch someone in the face straight up.

I saw him last summer at Citifield and yelled really loud during "Only Mama Knows, "Sing The Changes" and "Mrs. Vanderbilt".

The setlist debate is always a hot subject on this board. McCartney has been in the music business close to 50 yrs and some people want him to live totally in the 7 yrs of the Beatles. I fully understand the hugeness of the Beatles but his career did not end in1970. With the prices McCartney charges ($235 for floor seat), he should appease the Beatle loving audience to a degree. I always thought the compromise of 18 Beatle Songs,9 Wings songs and 9 Solo songs would be fair to everyone including people seeing McCartney for the first time. (he usualy plays 35-36 songs). My complaint with McCartney has been that he repeated the same old Wings songs but he has changed that recently which is nice although it is still BOTR heavy. As for solo, wish he would go back and play things like "Take It Away" (top 10 single) and different songs from CHAOS like "Promise To You Girl" or "Too Much Rain". In the end, will have a great time no matter the setlist.

I was next to a VIP couple in Atlanta last year who loudly exclaimed after the show that the opening act should have played all The Beatles songs Paul wasn't going to. These same people also asked who that was on my shirt (a picture of Paul from the '70s). I was disgusted. Paul is so much better than that.

Most people at these concerts are "Beatle" fans, others like us have a greater appreciation of the entire McCartney musical career. (to each their own I guess).

Anyone with a VIP package heard what time sound check will begin?
