Do You Stop and Listen in the Supermarket Aisles?
-
Ah, it happened to me again this morning. I took a drive to the local supermarket and while I was shopping, a song started playing, and...I did not know the name of it or the artist. But it was the second time that I encountered this particular song while walking though the supermarket aisles. And it sounded pretty good to me. So I started paying attention to it, listening for specific unique lyrics that I could remember later. At first as is usually the case, I could hear the melody, but I could not make out the words at the far distance of the supermarket's speakers. So I then moved around to find a speaker with "a direct line of sight to my ears", and when I found one, I stood there with my head tilted towards the ceiling. Sometimes I can be seen doing this for the entire length of the song. And so, when I returned home, I Googled the lyric phrase in quotes. This morning I Googled for ("when I lose control, I can only breathe your name" + lyrics). By adding the + lyrics after the quoted lyrics, Google will usually pull up a list of songs that have the quoted lyrics. In this case, Google returned the song, "Breathe Your Name" by the group Sixpence None the Richer. I missed that song when it was new. I often find myself playing Name That Tune with unknown But Excellent songs that are played over the supermarket intercom system. Last year at this time, I heard one that at first baffled me. It was a pleasant folksy tune. And later in the same tune, the singer started sounding like Sir Paul. So I walked around the store, looking for that sweet zone, and when I found it, I heard what sounded like "Sweep over the heather". But my apologies. I had forgotten the precise lyrics. So Google failed me when I checked. I spent the next three hours trying variations on a theme, until I came up with "Mull of Kintyre"...by Celtic Thunder! Do you find yourself doing this at the supermarket when the music plays??

Done this myself........... In the past few years caught both My Brave Face and No More Lonely Nights in a supermarket and walgreens respectively. I find myself sometimes lingering if it's a song I like.

You are describing me However, I have an app called sound hound that can usually pick up some of the tune and lyrics and then start following the song in actual time with the lyrics... so I am the one you will see in the store aisle, with my arm straight up in the air, with my phone reaching up toward the speaker, trying to catch the song. I have all the speakers scoped out in my store... Have had a few stares doing this There is no pride in getting the name of the song!! I also do this in bars too!! So I insist on the seats nearest the loudest speaker! Luckily my girlfriend that I usually go with knows a lot of songs too... but we have to check out new the ones we love!! Have pulled the car over, while driving too, but now that I have XM it tells you the song!!

I've heard this song (a number of times) on the radio without anyone giving its title or the band. I sort of liked it ... It wasn't until almost a year ago that the song was playing at a local restaurant that I asked what's the name of this song?? Here it is ... The Fray - How to save a life
here's an acoustic version of the same (which I just found) -

My Supermarkets here, are marketing to Older folks here. by playing a lot of 60's tunes, and 70's tunes, thru it's speakers their. to keep me in the store to buy more groceries! its a great Marketing tool. I just go down every aisle singing Another Day, don't say Goodnight tonight. I just have so much fun at the Market now, smiling and picking out good things to make and eat for the Week-end. they play lots of Beatles too. it is great social place to go as well. most smile back when I smile at them.
