......IN A HEARTBEAT

Still struggling. A couple of weeks ago was her birthday. That was soooo painful. I'm not looking forward to Christmas. Thou my other brother has invited me to his, which will at least get me out of this place. Living here in Assisted Living hasn't helped. By it's very nature, it's full of very elderly and sick people. One dies nearly every week re-enforcing my loss. My neighbour died last month of a brain tumour. They send people like that to Assisted Living when they're not quite ready for Palliative care. It's soooo hard to watch. It's not been a good enviorment for me to be in.
I wish they'd send this kind of patient to Extended Care instead. When I first came here, that's what they did: only relatively healthy people with physical problems which barred them from caring for themselves, were admitted. You were supposed to be mentally fit enough to direct your own care, and transfere yourself. But they changed the rules a few years ago, and now routinely dump extremely frail, dementia patients, and outright dying folks here. it's changed the whole atmosphere here. It's become a very depressing place. Not a good fit for someone recovering from a loss.

So sorry to hear this Laura. Glad you will be able to go to your brother's for Christmas though.
I see you started a new thread asking if Paul has written a new book. There is already a thread about his latest book, The Lyrics, 1956 to Present. I don't know if you've read about my technical problems with this site, but I can only access old threads like this one when logged on, so had to answer here.
Paul also recently published a book called Grandude's Green Submarine.

Little Laura, this is Nancy R. The_Fool was able to create me a new screen name/account. You'll know it's me as the photo/avatar is the same. Now I can access all threads and can send & receive PMs under my new user name.

Thanks for the info on Paul. I'll keep them in mind. Glad you got better access too. Curiously, I'm not getting any labels from the boxes on top of this. (smiley face, Bold, Italics, underline, etc). Weird. Maybe if I sign out & log in again. Thanks anyways.

Another weird glitch on this site! How were you able to post that face above, then? Was it directly from your computer? I have loads of emoticons on my iPad I can use in regular posts, but have to use the ones provided here in PMs! If I try to use my emoticons in a PM it gives me some kind of error page!

The labels were missing, but when my mouse hovered over them, it said what each "square" was--so when it said smiley, I clicked it and it worked for some reason. I see them today for some reason. Weird.

Oh "joy"! A Care Aide at my Assisted Living place showed up last Monday with Covid. ( tested positive after so I presume she showed up carrying the virus.). We residents weren't told "Officially", but had to find out through grapevine. On Saturday there was a sudden flurry of staff going door to door, suddenly interested in everyone's health. So my radar was already up as of then. Then yesterday, Sunday, the Manager suddenly showed up. And had a resident tested by a nurse right in his office. Because she was half deaf he had to shout--so I overheard everything. Then I overheard him on his cell phone as he wandered around in one of our Lounges. Wasn't much left to the imagination after that. Today a staffer confirmed there had been "an exposure", but that's all she would say. Another Care Aide told me the sick worker worked on my floor. So far, there's no lockdown, but that could change if a resident gets sick. Five days before Christmas too.

So sorry to hear this! Are they only going to test you if you show symptoms? Have you been vaccinated + booster?

Well, we are in lockdown now. Since last Monday. For days before, rumours were flying that Covid had invaded the Independent Living side. Management refused to confirm--at least on our Assisted Living side. (they never tell us anything on this side.). Then suddenly last Monday boom--we were in lockdown. Turns out there were 7 cases of Covid on the I.D. side. Might be more now. Lockdown stays until next Monday--maybe. It all depends on what's going on then. I have to tell you, being confined to your room with no visitors, is not a good envirement to deal with grief. With no real distractions I keep thinking about her, the mistakes I made, about the fact I wasn't there when it happened. How I hadn't been there for a week before. I was on my way that day, but I didn't make it. The fact that celebrities are dropping dead everywhere hasn't helped. One thing I didn't do, was watch that Emmett Till story on TV. I decided that would be just too muchsadness to deal with, on top of my own troubles, tho I find myself drawn to other tragedies.

I will write larger so you can read this easier. Sorry to hear about your lockdown. You never answered my post as to if you had been vaccinated and had a booster. Both my son & his dad had breakthrough cases but they were mild since they had been vaccinated.
Try not to beat yourself up about your mom. I sometimes go through the "what ifs" about my dad, but it doesn't help - you just have to carry on.
How is your brother and nephew?
I was able to find my other login info, so now I am NJR and having no more technical problems with this site.

I am vaccinated--twice--and had the booster. Still, people who have, have still gotten the Omicron virus. My brother & nephew are struggling still. Tho my nephew seems stable. My brother just got out of the hospital yet again. Lockdown has been lifted, but I lost another good friend here to Covid. The others all survived.

My larger writing disappeared (30 minute rule I guess!)
Yes, I know people can still get Covid after being vaccinated, as I said, both my son and his dad got it in spite of being vaccinated. The point is that if you are vaccinated you are less likely to get real sick or die.
Hope your brother and nephew get better soon. Sorry you lost another friend.

Little Laura,
So sorry to hear about your accident. You seem to be handling what you need to do now well. A painter once told me his philosophy of life is he just does the next right thing. I seem to do that a lot and appreciate his insight. Bless you and hugs as you get on with the next right thing in your life.

In lockdown again. Sigh. 3 people have Covid this time. Meals on trays to your suite again. I didn't even bother to get dressed today. Don't know how long this one will last. Some said 5 days. Others said 10. Only time will tell. One worrying thing is one of the residents who has it, was sitting right next to me the other day.
-
Still in lockdown. I'm literally surrounded by neighbours with Covid. Believe it or not they allow the smokers to leave their rooms to go out to smoke. That means they go down the hall breathing covid germs down the hallway at anyone they meet, touch elevator buttons, and re-infecting fellow smokers as they're breathing on each other. Hardly isolating! They should be forced to wear patches during this time, and stay in their rooms! Mad? Yeah I guess I am.

Two weeks and counting. Covid all over the place. Lockdown still in place.

Out of lockdown for nearly 2 months now. Let's hope there's no more! Brother in and out of hospital again. My Nephew just completed College which hopefully will help him getting work. Maybe, maybe things are a little brighter? Hardly dare say. Did a portrait of neighour's dog for which I got $60.00. But won't be doing any more work for him, as he then turned around and announced he was going to arrange support--for another artist! Ingrate! People.

It has been quite a while. I was too caught up with my life's drama, then my bleepin' password refused to work. Sigh. This doesn't mean I haven't been keepin' my eye on Paul. Ofcoursenot! Missed being here. Still me usual kooky self.
