Oh "joy" [read sarcasm there]. Now both my brother & sister are sick. One with COPD and the other...they don't really know what is wrong, exactly. Oh yeah, something's gone wrong with me eyes again. I'm seeing a Specialist next month. Sigh............ Hey! Is that a target I see on me back???? Just askin'........................

What IS it with this family of mine. Now my MOTHER has COPD. (me Dad had it too). Mom was sick last month. We thought we'd lose her. But she rallied. Then, 2 weeks ago she tripped and split her head open. Got staples in the back of her head. Blood everywhere. To lighten things up, I told her she was now a "metalhead". Went right over her---well you know. On another tack, a careworker I knew at the Rehab hospital I was at for those 7 ths., was murdered last week. What a shock! And today I almost squished myself this afternoon with me own wheelchair! I forgot I'd left it on, and the control knob was under the table. When I leaned on the table, it suddenly zipped forward! EEEEEEK! Almost done in by me own transport! Why is me life soooo weird! :

Great to see you! Thanks, for bringing Jay's pic back! Didn't you have an art project or something that you got praise for? Be careful! Hope things get better!

You're welcome. Ummmm....I sold a painting I did a while back. Didn't get much--but hey--I sold something! I'll post a link soon. They have an art class once a week here in this residence. I try to go, tho right now it's pretty basic stuff. Still, there are always pointers to pick up--so I try to go each week. A lady there said she would teach me the basics of stain glass art. Should be very interesting.

Laura, "it's always something" as Gilda Radner called her autobiography, and it's true. Reading your updates, your news, your life humbles me--I'd been lamenting recent big scares in my own melodrama and wishing my life were more a comedy (and not a black comedy) and less a drama and operatic series of tragedies. But then I read yours, and feel disgusted with myself. It could have been worse and one day will be worse, the body turns against us. You know something about that. Suddenly a catastrophe happens. Disasters. You've got a real treasure of true happiness awaiting commensurate with the degree of pain suffered, that's going to be true, it will happen and in the meantime I can tell you appreciate the small miracles and fleeting minutes of joy, you're a wonder and I'm hoping and praying everything gets so much better for you
-
So true, Susy. Nice to see you here again, Laura.
-
Ahhhhh....thanks guys.
-
Laura, write about your life ! And it will be a best seller. Hoping your loved ones' travails have eased as well as your own.

Oh joy, as my nephew says. I've really been under with a lot of bad luck lately. 1st, my Mom got really ill, then no sooner was she better when she fell and suffered a pelvic fracture. Then 5 weeks later, just one week after getting home, she got a lung infection So back to the hospital for another 5 weeks. She's finally home now. Let's hope for a while! During this time no fewer than 8 residents here died in 8 weeks. That's one a week on average! 3 of them I was quite close to. One in particular. One died because she fell and struck her head--hard. The stupid hospital didn't even X-ray her and sent her home hours later. She died of a brain bleed the next day. It seems if you're elderly, they don't feel obliged to do anything. "oh she's old--she's gonna die soon anyway. So why bother" seems to be the attitude. The latest thing was the elevator (the only one), died on us. Would you believe that despite the fact this is a care center, Otis refused to send anyone to even look at it, because it was the weekend. Otis does not "do" weekends. Never mind it broke on a Thursday and no one showed up. 5 bleedin days it was down. Leaving two floors of residents stranded in their rooms. One even had to cancel her long awaited hip surgery because of it. No matter. Otis comes when they damn well feel like it. Thubs DOWN for Otis Elevators!!!!!!

Oh Laura I was complaining about various stuff and then I come in here and read your post, which was heart-rending. I will pray like crazy like a demon with her eyes on fire, for y'all (odd to envision a demon praying, that's from a Steely Dan song)--y'all got to catch a break, a good luck thing, not breaking any bones or such, I meant. You're due for something real good to happen.

Thanks. I hope so too.

I can't believe it's been over 5 years since I started this thread. I'm still in this Assisted Living Residence; have seen 3 managers now, (was it something I said? ); and have seen a lot of fellow residents come & go. The good news is that I'm now eligible for a new power chair with my medical insurance company! So here's a question, (poll?). My old one is red. What colour should I choose this time? Purple? Hot pink?..........What do you think?

LITTLE LAURA:
Hi, I'm back. I think. Life can change in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I've learned that lesson the hard way. Almost 5 mths ago I had an extremely severe accident, which is why I haven't been here. When I woke up 3 three days later I was told I would no longer be able to walk. I'd be in a wheelchair from now on. The last few mths I've been in a Rehab Hospital, where I relearned to dress/undress myself, use the bathroom by myelf again, among other things, as well as daily physio. I can't go back to my old home again, and am now being processed to go to an "Assisted Living" complex. So appreciate the life you got, folks. You never know when it could change. Or how fast it can happen. .
Good to see you again LL. I went back to your original post & reread it & quoted it above. My entire world has changed...in a heartbeat too. My husband just died a month ago from an accident at home. You just saying that it has been 5 years gives me hope that I can make it. You are a strong woman. Thank you for posting today. I vote for a purple wheelchair.
-
Yes, Laura is an inspiration to us all. Choose whichever is your favorite color (sorry, "favourite colour"), Laura.
-

-

Nice to see you posting! As red is my favorite color, I am sorry to see the red chair go. Given the choice of purple or hot pink, I would go with purple...regal! Although, pink is supportive! Which color are you leaning toward and why?
