......IN A HEARTBEAT

Fool! That sounds terrible. I'm glad you are ok. Yep...lives can be forever changed in those nanoseconds. And it plays in your mind forever.
-
Thank you, Fool. I'm getting better all the time. I always say that for a few reasons. Positive thinking and all that, but mostly it reminds me of the song. Having that song bouncing around in your head never hurt. I'm sorry to hear about your car accident. Does everyone have a car accident in their past? It seems like maybe we should all be more careful about that. I'm looking forward to the day when mine is a footnote in the past.

Wow, sorry to hear about your accident Hailey! Sending prayers that you heal quickly! Glad to see you back!! There are too many crazy drivers and texters on the roads lately. Have seen some scarey accidents with multiple cars spread out in all directions. Thinking it's the damn texters. They're going to have to put speed governors on cars and a device which inactivates phone texting, while the car is in motion.
-
Thank you. Right now my hair and brain are having a race to see which one grows back faster.
Personally, I'm betting on the hair.
I can't see the United States ever having any kind of device that interferes with people doing whatever is popular this week. When it comes to trends vs saving lives, you know which way people will vote.

There is a thread where we can get political ... I rarely contribute.
This a non-political view on USA Presidential Elections: For years it goes, Democrats control for 8 years; then the Republicans have a run for 8 years (with rare exceptions). As much as one side or the other would like to break that trend, it hasn't worked. It's a long standing trend ... check it out!

Sorry to hear about your accident Hailey!!! Boy can I relate! Before I had my life-changing fall, I too was in a car accident. I had just recovered from an early-life hip replacement,(I was only 22), and was just about to stop using my cane, when I was hit from behind by an impaired driver, while I was stopped at a red light. I was pushed halfway across the interection. Lucky for me the other cars missed hitting me: they'd seen it coming so hadn't moved on their green light. The accident undid the entire replacement, and put me on crutches for life--until that fall which put me in the wheelchair.
I'm talking about me too much. I hope you recover fully and the law comes down hard on the other driver. Did you know in some South American country if they catch you texting and driving they take your phone away for good? Maybe we should have that here. That might make some think.

Talk about you as much as you want. It sounds like you've earned it.
I'm a dancer, so what you've been through is my worst nightmare. Bumping my head slowed me down, but losing the use of my legs would be the end of my life as I know it. And replacing a hip at 22 is unimaginable. Your story is like when you read about children who are imprisoned and enslaved by their own family. We can imagine it, but we can't really imagine it.
When my car was hit, we ended up on a side street clear across a large intersection. This was in Beijing, so we're talking about one of those jumbo intersections with a million lanes moving in every direction. Obviously, this isn't a competition. You'd definitely win, but I think I beat you as far as intersections go. When traffic resumed, I couldn't even see the scooter I hit. It was too far away.
As far as crime and punishment goes, there's a pretty good chance that the truck driver who caused most of the damage was executed not long afterward. I'm a firm believer that people should be far more careful when driving, and there should be strict consequences for those who put all of our lives at risk for no reason, but I think his punishment was far too harsh. Taking away phones is good, though. Or even cars.

Hey! I actually figured it out! As I said, life hasn't been too good since last time. Now my Mom's in hospital with pneumonia. Going back and forth, plus my own health problems leaves me pretty tired. Sigh.
On the good side I made about $70.00, (CAN) at the Craft Fair held here at the Residence. Including two prints of my paintings! Yaaaaaaaaaay............................

I was just thinking bout you the other day, Little Laura, wondering how you were...that's great about the art show and your selling your works, it should inspire you to create more of them. You're very talented ! Do whatever you can to get better physically, have you got the best of care where you are? I sure hope so. Hoping your mother feels much better, too.

Some country--I think Brazil, but I'm not sure--takes away your cell phone permanently if you're caught texting & driving.
(I think they destroy it). I guess that wouldn't fly in U.S or Canada. Sometimes I think there really are too many "rights" here. What about the right to not be horribly injured or killed on public roads by careless, selfish people??? I should disclose that I was permanently injured by an impaired driver (before my serious fall), so I guess I'm a little biased that way. But that's how I feel.

You can't take things away from Americans, unless they're poor, because Americans think they have the right to do whatever they want. They will fight tooth and nail to keep their crap and vote against anyone who puts safety over toys. Until something happens to them. Then they complain that no one is doing enough to protect them.
-
Laura, have you tried selling your paintings where you live? You are in an assisted living facility, right? Someone there must be in charge of buying all the art and decorations they put all over the place. They might want to replace all the bland Sears art with something more original.
-
Things have gone south here. The Drs. have said that my Mom cannot come back to the Assisted Living residence we both live at. They say she's slipped in health so much she needs more care than this place provides. I'm just so upset right now.
HaileyMcComet, I did try once with the previous manager here. She turned me down flat. When I suggested one of mine could be up in one of the four places she allowed another resident's art, she put mine in a remote corner, on a small easal on the floor! Needless to say I was soooo insulted, I removed it immediately.
However, that manager is gone. Maybe I should approach the new one.....
-
Keep trying. When it comes to anything artistic, everyone hears no far more than they hear yes.
I'm sorry about your mother.
-
Thanks. To both. It's going to be a bleaker Christmas without me & Mom celebrating together. (her being still in hospital.). On the brighter side, my younger brother is hosting Christmas dinner at a place that is accessable, and he invited me. That'll help some.
-
Have a nice Christmas dinner with your brother. Hope your Mom gets better.
-
Well the Health authority insisted on moving Mom not just to extended care but to a locked down care residence as they mostly take in severe dementia residents. Now she's in a 4-bed room with the other three residents confined to bed and unable to even talk. To say I'm horrified is the greatest understatement! Mom has some dementia,, but she's not bad enough to be in this place! But tell that to my (older) brother, who's the POA, (power of attorney), and his wife who dictates what she wants to him. Neither care. They've got "their lives" ya know. They just want to warehouse her. My younger brother is upset like me, but he has no legal power. His only kicks in if something happens to our older Bro. Meanwhile Mom is rapidly deteriorating from no stimilation. I don't know what to do. I feel sooo helpless.
Also my wheelchair is deteriorating as well. Applying for a new one through the system is slower than a turtle on sleep-eze!!!
-
My heart goes out to you and your mom. Should I ever become wealthy, you will be one of the first people that I will send a BIG chunk of change too.
-
Oh that's so sweet. Thank-you. You posting that helps. Hopefully I get to see her tomorrow. (Monday). My younger brother picks me up in his car. I use my Manual chair for that. Tho it's a killer on my arms to get downstairs, it's the only way I can go with my other chair going downhill fast.
Speaking of that chair, I had a message on my phone Friday from a Occupational Therapist wanting to connect with me about that. I'll call tomorrow. The turtle has actually taken a step! Though I'm not fooling myself: this system is soooo slow!

I don't know about Canadian law, but in the United States, you can get a court to take away someone's power of attorney if they are using it to harm or neglect the person. Locking a little old lady up in an overcrowded room could be enough to convince the court to make some changes.
