18+2+2=22...now that's perfection!
What?
18 gold...2 silver...and 2 bronze
For GB I assume? Thanks for explaining.
Those are the total Olympic career medals of American swimmer Michael Phelps. The most medal winning olympian ever.

Yes.

Why do most of the runners have on yellow shoes? Sale at target or what?
-
I'm glad you mentioned the word yellow. I was wondering today at work...on how it was that the Brits were doing so well in boating events. And then started to think about yellow submarines!
-
There's a standing joke that the British are good at "sitting down" sports and our medals do indeed seem to support that: Cycling Road 3 track 9 Rowing 9 Sailing 3 Equestrianism 3 Canoeing 2 29 of our current medal haul of 48 medals of all colours. Stepping behind the joke, statistics do indeed support that - when linked to another stat - that a disproportionate percentage of our medallists had public school (i.e. private, fee paying) educations, where equipment costs are more readily met, substance does seem to be given to the standing joke. All the fences at the Equestrian events have been London/UK themed. Today's Individual Showjumping features an Abbey Road fence: Click here for a larger image Martin

Or maybe it's more silly British Health & Safety rules about high visibility or something... As for GB only winning sitting down sports, I think that was much more true at Beijing. This year we've also had golds in TENNIS ( ), 10,000 metres running, long jump, heptathlon, shooting and triathlon, plus other medals in judo and swimming. We're getting seriously greedy with these medals now! In a way I'd rather see more of the smaller nations getting more medals I think, as it would mean more to them. Go Botswana!! Come on Micronesia!!

Apparently it's fault of the USA team: http://www.elleuk.com/beauty/news/nike-trainers-steal-the-show-at-olympics#image=1 They've worked with Nike to produce a range of this style to suit all events at the Olympics. Never short of the marketing opportunity though Nike have made the range freely available to all teams and the open market. I note with amusement that, mindful that some might end up flat on their face, they've put a prominent Nike "tick" underneath the shoe as well Martin

Hey Martin, it's a swoosh you know! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swoosh

Anyone seen this at the show jumping!!!!!

^That is so freaking cool! ETA: I didn't really type the F word! I typed f r e a k i n g!

Just thought I'd say that I really am glad Andy Murray won Gold for his tennis match with Roger Federer. Murray is the first "British man," to win gold in tennis since 1908. I watched him lose to Federer at Wimbledon on the telly, and his speech was so touching. Glad Scotland won a gold medal in tennis.

Martin already posted the Abbey Road show jumping hurdle fence thingy on the previous page.

Watching the events and particularly the Team GB competitors: I'm interested that Stella seems to have not provided a definitive Team GB kit for each event but rather a wardrobe from which each competitor could choose a strip to suit their personality. Just watched the 1500m semi-finals and Hanna England and Lisa Dobriskey both wore different kits. And it's something I've grown to notice through all the events. Clearly some effort has gone into this ... Martin PS not hearing any anti-Stella remarks regarding the kit now

I had this silly picture in my mind of a barely barely barely visible... yellowish object...beneath the rowing events!
