The Great Trivia Thread...

Did you know that the 'tusk' of a narwal is not actually a tusk at all? Do you know what it actually is and where the point of origin is typically located on the head (hint: not the forehead as the imaginary unicorn tusk located)?
it's made of hair isn't it?

It's not - I'll post the answer shortly if no one else gets or or tries:-)

And the answer is......(drum roll) It's the incisor tooth from the upper left jaw....very rarely, the right one will also grow out, giving the whale two 'tusks'. Also, the most accepted rationale for the cause of this growth is that it's a secondary sexual characterist trait (of the males). Females can grow these as well, but it's also very rare....so there you have it

Now that's a whale of a tale

Now that's a whale of a tale
Or a tooth of a whale (boo, hiss ops: )

I'm absurdly pleased that Robert Patterson and Kristina Stewart from the Twilight movies really ARE a couple, although I didn't go to the movies and dislike the very thought of those films. For one thing I like it that Robert's British, and his looks have grown on me, I used think him not cute at all.

More Hollywood trivia: I keep reading in gossip about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes planning to "boycott" this year's Oscars due to Anne Hathaway as co-host. They had befriended and consoled Hathaway when she broke up with her boyfriend, who turned out to be a white collar criminal. Then Anne went on to "mock" Katie H. on "Saturday Night Live" in a skit. Make fun of her. So they're feuding over that. Do you think they're right to take this stance, or are Tom and Katie being petty minded? I don't know if this story is true, but I've read it several places. Why should the Cruises even go to the Oscars-- they're not up for anything this year. So, maybe it's not true. Annette Benning is winning awards for playing a lesbian (very convincingly, too) in "The Kids are Alright." Ironically, she and hubby Warren Beatty are climbing the walls over their oldest daughter's desire to have a sex change operation, like Cher's former daughter, Chastity Bono. Well, perhaps this dilemma isn't really all that trivial...it sure isn't to the Beattys.

More trivia in the Holms-Cruise-Hathaway "controversy"--Hathaway said it was Joey from Dawson's Creek she was making fun of in the skit, not Katie Holmes who played Joey

This is like Entertainment Tonight!! Hey Suze... I didn't realize that Javier Bardem was married to Penelope Cruze??? I saw that last night and was taken aback??...Wow...what a hot couple (both latins) ops: ops: ....he seems very smitten with her!! Don't be jealous now...I know your crazy for him
-
I think he's hot but not really that "crazy" for him, which is reserved for somebody else Natalie Portman, singer Jewel, Kate Hudson are all pregnant! (not really trivia though, is it, especially not to them!) oh and Penelope Cruz by Javier
-
Added to the baby boom: Alicia Silverstone and Selma Blair have each announced they're expecting, too! This is starting to seem even more prolific than the recent divorce/splitting up "boom." I think I forgot to mention that "Posh" and "Bex" Beckham are expecting their fourth child. Hope it's a girl this time, fingers crossed

Still, they seem to value preservation of older buildings more than is done in this country (think the "urban removal" movement of the '60s and we weren't even bombed!)
