I quit cigarettes Cold Turkey many many years ago. It was a pouring rainstorm and I started going through ashtrays and the garbage looking for a bit left on a ciggy. I looked at what I was doing, and I disgusted myself enough to quit!! Was so glad I did, even though I gained weight at first.

Did you gain weight at second and third as well?

I was 110 lbs and went up to about 115 lbs if I recall It's a wonder that they don't decriminalize pot, for the taxes alone, you would think they would. We have a couple of smoke shops in the area that seem to be waiting for it, they certainly don't look like tobacco or cigar shops with the psychedelic sign and all.

"The Obama administration isn't going to reclassify marijuana and remove it from the list of the most dangerous drugs." CBS report http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/08/11/marijuana-classification/

The Republicans and Conservatives were the one's who pushed to give it a harsher classification to begin with. Throughout history, it has always been the Liberals and Democratic minded people who push to decriminalize it. "A nurse practitioner and two former Democratic Governors filed petitions asking federal agencies to have marijuana reclassified as a drug with acceptable medical uses" (From the article link)

That's not entirely true. Absolutely the presidents who ratcheted up the drug war were Republicans -- Nixon and Reagan -- but many Democrats have pushed for tougher drug laws and mandatory minimum sentences. That includes Bill Clinton and Joe Biden. On the other hand, libertarian-leaning Republicans also typically oppose the war on drugs. I spent several years working for a marijuana legalization group (which shall remain nameless) and we often found that when we were trying to get something introduced in Congress to cut back the federal war on marijuana, the only people we could get to support it were Barney Frank and Ron Paul. It was all the Dems and Reps in the mushy middle who wouldn't touch us with a ten foot pole.

That's really interesting. I think medicinal marijuana should be legalized everywhere. I know someone who has a very rare form of muscular weakness in his arms and vaping is the only thing that helps. It does not make him high, he says.

I have sympathy for people who are prone to addiction. The doctors really prescribe drugs very liberally...I didn't know that about Xanax, I got the prescription filled, but turned to natural substances that do the same thing. My girlfriend the nurse lets me know what natural things work the same way. I'm surprised at the things I've been given by the doctor tho... Have friends with addictive personalities and I know they suffer for it. I'm lucky, Ive been exposed to a lot of things growing up Up til now.. Wound up being the designated driver instead. Don't like getting in a car with someone who just consumed a case of beer or whatever Have some scarey memories from my youth, the flying car during a lighting storm...etc. Now, I'll be the driver, it's safer.

Tell me what these natural substances are that are substitutes for Xanax, because sometimes I really need to take one. (I'm serious, not trying to be funny here) Thanks! P.S. I was always the designated driver too. The only alcoholic beverage I even like is a frozen strawberry dacquiri, and I haven't had one since 2014 when I was at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on a 5-night all inclusive Beatles-related vacation!

Last time I drank was 12/31/1997. After about 21 years of it, realized it was taking me nowhere but down.

The one I really like is Neuroscience SeroTrex, I can take up to 3 per day as needed. I usually take one right before work and then one after lunch. They seem to work well as far as the high stress there. http://www.evitalhealth.com/SeroTrex_Chewable_Tablets_.html?gclid=CJ-JxoCIotQCFYOFswod3kQN-A I also take Thorne Research - Rhodiola which I think is good as well. I take 2 a day. My job is so stressful...I'm noticing a difference, especially when my boss is yelling , I can just turn around and walk away. They are both as needed, and so for work only. Just found a bunch of people with the same problem with that mgr, hope we can team up and effectively solve the problem. https://www.iherb.com/pr/Thorne-Research-Rhodiola-60-Veggie-Caps/18583?gclid=CKntw9iJotQCFQlWDQod7RwBJA I'm lucky, I can drink, or not drink. When I'm with my college buddies, they are tequila party animals. I can drink a lot of tequila or champagne with no hangover. One side of my family is teatotalers and that's fine too. The most drinking I do is in our forum bar or one drink if I go out with the girls from work. When I fly, I try to knock myself out with Baileys because I can't sleep on planes. I guess that's called social drinking.

I need to get you to talk to my ex-husband. Seriously, though, short of an intervention, how do you help someone who is an alcoholic and is literally going to drink himself to death and/or take someone with him in a car wreck?

Had a few whiskey sours lately after decades of teetotal-hood, and must say I enjoyed it. It didn't feel depraved (LOL)--was legal and in moderation. Hope it doesn't gateway into a plethora of boozing it up, white powders, and pills--doubt that it will, being so conscious of my liver and brain, etc.
