I'm still waiting for flying cars. Though I think they should never be allowed in China.
I'm envisioning a traffic control tower on every block.

People can't even drive them, let alone fly them! They would have to be automatic somehow.

The first city in the US to use 100% renewable energy! It took a long time since the 70's http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/vermont-city-come-rely-100-percent-renewable-energy/ Steven, watched the video on the Dawn Mission...it was really interesting. Thanks for posting the link! Waiting to hear about the lights on Ceres!
They make more energy than they use with wind and solar and hydroelectric It seems to me that I read that 1 wind turbine can produce enough electricity to power 40,000 households Here's a chart to the top wind turbine states... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wind_power_capacity_density_by_state_2013.svg Those 2 lights on Ceres are interesting indeed. Some people think there may be liquid in some form under the surface. They are in the middle of what looks like it could be an impact crater. I wonder if the surface wasn't cracked by the impact allowing something to seep up and freeze.

Exactly! I'm not so sure about relying on a heavier than air vehicle with no wings to get me safely from place to place. Especially, when all it takes is a sensor malfunction or other system glitch to make you drop out of the sky.

Perhaps we've just not unlocked the secret of levitation in flying cars yet... the aliens have come a long way using whatever it is that allows their craft to fly. As far as the wind turbines... they have talked about putting them off the coast in the ocean near to where I live. The oceanfront owners are protesting that they are too ugly...what??? they are beautiful. There also was the case of a homeowner in my state, who got a permit to put up a wind turbine. His bill was about $9.50 a month. The neighbors didn't like it and they made him take it down!! A bit ominous from Stephen Hawking... I've read a lot of Sci Fi in my day, where the robots rise up... the point he makes is very valid. If the computer techs of the world are mainly like the computer tech where I work, we are doomed!! http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/12/09/hawkings-fear-of-human-extinction-is-all-about-programing/ What a chilling moment in 2001 A Space Odyssey when HAL reads the humans lips and sees that they are going to shut him down....

That can't be good for anyone.

Have you ever driven in China? I'd never leave the house if we had flying cars.

Somebody in a tower or vehicle is bound to be drunk as a skunk; or on a "smart phone"; or ....
-
It is a totally impractical idea for the general public...the skies are congested enough as it is. It would be a million times worse than an Alfred Hitchcock movie ...about birds.
-
I think the cars will all be automatic and preprogrammed for a destination. They already have programming to brake automatically if you are going to hit a vehicle and programming that could work like a gps to get to a destination. There will be over rides of course, but those cars will be mainly, totally automatic. Like in the movie I Robot, based on Issac Asimovs book! So drink away... there'll probably drones all over the place too!
-
This whole conversation just reminded me of a book I read as a youth called, "One's Man's Utopia Is Another Man's Hell". It was based in the future where they had flying cars they called, "Zippers" I can't remember much else about it, although.

If our phones can take down a 747, imagine what they'd do to all those flying cars.

I'd hate to be the person who has to open the doors for those zippers. You never know what's going to come out.

Two things concern me... How do the brakes work when you're in the air? ...and, where can I buy a drone swatter?

Driving a car in the air? Eassy Peassy
Drone swatter... Done with a nod to the birds (Bodega Bay) -
^ Classic scene from 5th Element...and classic to be Audi commercial!

Speaking of New Technology... have thought about being Cryogenically frozen at the End of the End, to be able to see the future! Ted Williams was and a few other people that are known, were. Not Walt Disney tho.. In a couple of years they feel confident that the first human head transplant will take place. Or a Time Machine... would be THE BEST invention!!
I'm not big into cryogenics and head transplants. There is more and more evidence that soul reincarnation exists. I think that past life regression will become a scientific artform in the near future. I watched a video recently...but, lost track of it and need to find it again, where Michio Kaku talked about what we're able to do with the human mind now. We can actually peer into the mind now and see the images that it is imaging. We are also beginning to be able to download and upload memories from one person to another. I just read a little bit yesterday about a female pilot who can fly a plane using only her mind. Stephen Hawkings also has a special pair of glasses now that monitors his brain waves and is being developed to allow him to turn his thoughts into speech. We are living the future right now. Amazing!
I really need to read that about downloading and uploading memory... does that mean we will get memory chips, when we run out of room? Seriously, it sounds very interesting!! Saw Hawking tonight on PBS and they briefly touched on a new form of communication. That sounds really interesting... Just read this... Mars in weeks instead of months... Wow!! http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-07/31/nasa-validates-impossible-space-drive

I wish I could find that video again where Michio talked deeply about all of that stuff. I wonder if they weren't talking about Hawking's new glasses that are being developed to allow his brainwaves to be converted into dialogue? The accelerating and deaccelerating G-forces involved would be phenomenal! I wonder how they would deal with that?

Now that's some rocket into the Universe. It sounds very interesting ! Was interesting to see him floating in 0 gravity! He looked so happy! If you stumble on it, let me know....there's all that "unused" part of our brain after all...

Here it is!!! I don't agree with some parts like where they think that God is created in the human mind. They are going to find out...that it is the other way around!
