Trayvon Martin

Discuss the recent protests and movements to bring justice to George Zimmerman, who supposedly shot and killed a teen walking home holding only skittles and a tea.
-
Pardon my somewhat hyperbolic comments: That could've easily been me. It is an absolute outrage that this murderer Zimmerman was never even brought in to the police for questioning. He seemingly got a free-pass for killing a black kid. That's how it appears to me. And it's looking more and more that's what the whole purpose of Florida's Stand Your Ground Law was designed to do: Eliminate the "undesirables."

a nice young man walks to the store through a neighborhood ...the neighborhood security guard follows him and calls the police ...the police tell the security guard to stop following the nice young man

And then the Black Panthers and other extremist came along and turned it into a racial thing against 'whites' when in fact, neither the shooter or victim were white. But with that said, this law is pretty 'loosey goosey' and was probably inviting such an incident to occur...of course the racial overtones of this case has overrode the fact that the story started life about a questionable law and how it may have very well cost a young kid his life

The issue at hand is the law that was enacted by a mostly-white legislature, hence the racial overtones. One gentleman chased a home invader for eight (or so) blocks and then stabbed him to death, and was protected under this law. Leaving aside the race issue, though, there is a young man who is dead for no reason, and I worry that his life is being forgotten while his name is being used quite a bit to debate this law.

I couldn't tell you one thing about the Black Panthers beyond 1970. It's funny how "conservatives" are purporting that this group continues to be relevant in 2012.

I must correct myself: The officer who questioned Zimmerman the night of the murder was convinced that Zimmerman needed to be charged with manslaughter. And the DA let this murderer leave. Also, the police leaked the b.s. claim that Trayvon had attacked Zimmerman, beating him so badly that the back of his head was bloody. Well, new police-video has surfaced indicating no evidence of any attack on Zimmerman at all. Friends, we have a good ol' fashioned cover-up. And people wonder why we're STILL so jaded against so-called law-enforcement.

I should mention that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are in the mix there as well...and now the liberal media is painting the shooter as 'white cuban' as a means of making him 'white'...It's completely racial now and the Black Panthers and however relevent they are today is only a small part of the reason why

Screw Zimmerman's ethnicity. We are outraged that Zimmerman -- who we all now know was a friend to the Sanford police -- got preferential treatment of the most absurd order. Rich, it is insulting to me, personally, that you continue to harp on what the fringe-left press might be reporting, instead of focusing on the basic, sloppy, reckless way this murder has been handled. CBS, ABC, Fox News and CNN are NOT liberal media. And their reporting has been amazingly in synch.

The President DID choose to not comment, initially. However, the national outcry became so enormous that he HAD to comment. You have no idea what it's like to be a minority. None whatsoever. And, as for that Congressman, theatrics aside, his motives were not political -- but rooted in being what many black males are, who have been following this story: Pissed off.

caution: richn has no creds. Whatever he says make him cite a scource. The left press is in full outrage about this.

as of this morning's news...it seems the security guard has a pretty bad police record...domestic assault...resisting arrest...battery on a police officer

Geez...I was all set to counter-attack until you referred to me as a "kid." I am much older than I look. (And, yes, I do look fabulous -- but I digress. )

This whole thing is becoming a big mess. The bottom line: Two grieving parents only want justice for the murder of their unarmed 17-year-old son. And, yes, sometimes civil disobedience is a necessary evil. But no one, not even Al Sharpton, endorses mass murder.

Nothing good is going to come of this poor youth's death. The hope is that his tragic death will bring about the changes that are necessary to the laws to prevent anything this horrendous from happening again.
