Trayvon Martin

A pity, isn't it?
-
It really is. That crime caused a national discussion. I also can't believe how the victim was dragged through the mud. and now this development that seems key in the case...

Here we go again. Fatal shooting over music compared to Martin case The fatal shooting of a Florida teenager who was listening to loud music in a car a week ago has drawn comparisons to the Trayvon Martin case, but the differences are significant: http://seattletimes.com/html/nationworld/2019802986_apusloudmusickilling.html

I'm glad you commented on this. It's exactly what I thought when I read about it

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, before you go into deliberation please consider this; " A young man is walking home from the store with some skittles and a some tea. He is suspected of being a thief and is followed by an overzealous community resident. There is a scuffle, the young man is apparently beating the dog feces out of the resident. The resident pulls a gun and kills him. Now imagine that the resident doesn't have a gun and is killed by the fists of the the young man. Is it self defense?" -Dal dynasty

And on that note: Zimmerman Stuns Court, Waives Right to 'Stand Your Ground' Hearing in Trayvon Martin Case: http://news.yahoo.com/zimmerman-stuns-court-waives-stand-ground-hearing-trayvon-162305101--abc-news-topstories.html

Even though I find this case and it's outcome disturbing, there is a glimmer of light in that it has shed light on other Stand Your Ground cases in FLA where black people have been struck down for defending themselves. One being an abused housewife who fired a warning shot at the wall to warn her abusive husband off. The judge ruled against her because when she ran out to the garage, she forgot her keys. WTF? When my schmuck got in a rampage and I ran out, I forgot my keys instead. I fled on foot but unlike her, I didn't have offspring to protect and had friends who lived nearby. Stand Your Ground sounds like BS. PLus, has anyone checked out Zimmerman's Myspace page? Yep, he's got one. and it's chock full of racism that's years old

There's the Justice System. And there's the "Just Us" system.

Some feel that celebrities should remain silent on issues like this, but I praise brave people like Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Adam Levine, etc. who use their influence to champion their causes. Folks like Bruce can help wake up conservative, privileged Americans who will never, ever have to worry about police brutality: Bruce Springsteen dedicates song to Trayvon Martin "...Bruce Springsteen joined the ranks of those protesting the verdict on Tuesday, dedicating his song American Skin (41 Shots) to the slain teenager at a Limerick, Ireland, concert, according to The Star Ledger. After seeing a sign in the crowd with the song title scrawled across it, the Boss asked "Where is that sign" and grabbed it. "I want to send this one out as a letter back home," Springsteen said. "For justice for Trayvon Martin." "You can get killed just for living in your American skin," the song's lyrics say, which Springsteen wrote in 1999 following the police shooting death of Amadou Diallo ? a 23-year-old Guinea immigrant ? in New York City. ..."
