I just read that Louise Harrison (George's sister of course) passed away yesterday as well. She was 91.

Oh, that’s sad! She was a sweet lady. I met her at a Beatles convention in 1995 or 1996. R.I.P. Louise!
I can’t find anything online about it.

I have some sad news and happy news to report. I'll start with the sad news. Louise Harrison Caldwell, sister of George Harrison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 29th in her assisted living home in Sarasota, Florida. She was 91 years old. When I was the President of the only Official George Harrison Fan Club, Lou (who lived in Benton, IL at the time) was very helpful to me from the very beginning. In fact, the whole Harrison/French/Caldwell Family was always helpful to me. They always (until the end) treated me like I was part of their family. When I met Lou in person for the first time at the Fest for Beatles Fans (aka Beatlefest), she wrapped me in a big hug, and turned to her assistant and said “This is Pat. She’s part of my family.” Lou leaves behind her daughter, Leslie, and Grandson, Tory, and her daughter-in-law Carol, her Grandson Robert, and Great Grandson Gunner. She is also survived by her brother, Harry and sister-in-law Irene, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Well, sometimes with bad news, also comes good news. The good news is that on Friday, Jan. 27, Lou’s Grandson Robert (son of her son Gordon), became a father for the first time. Robert and his fiancée Brittany are the proud parents of Gunner Everett Caldwell. Gunner entered the world early (believe it or not, he was due on George’s birthday, Feb. 25!). Thanks to the world of technology, Lou was able to see a photo of her Great-Grandson before she died. I’m sure she is spreading that news in heaven!
(I thought Harry had died in 2012, but it turns out it was a different Harry Harrison! He was born in 1934 so is 88 or 89 - can’t find his exact birthdate online!)

@oobu24 That’s George’s brother Peter on the right. Born July 20, 1940 and died June 1, 2007, age 66, just shy of 67, of cancer.

ETA on Louise’s obituary: Her son Gordon must have died as he is not listed as one of her survivors.

Thinking about Louise Harrison and the part she played in getting publicity for The Beatles in the Midwest. Letter from Brian to Louise:

Yes, she promoted them in the beginning as most of us know but they didn't speak in later years. https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/recaps/george-harrison-s-poignant-last-words-to-his-sister-were-typical-george/ar-AA12cvwg

I’m glad they had that reunion before he passed. What I don’t understand is why Olivia cut her off completely afterwards. And not just monetarily. She never got to see her nephew Dhani, did she? I know George’s brother Harold lived in the gate house at Friar Park - he was the “estate manager” for years (and maybe only had to move out due to his health - he’s 88 or 89)

@njr I don't think any of the Beatles liked being exploited by their relatives.

@oobu24 Yeah, for sure. Were there any other “family quarrels” besides between Paul & his step-mother? I guess just the money mess between Yoko & Julian after John was killed.

I just realized that anytime you see an old post by admin, it is really the late, great Doris M. There are a few here who will remember her.

More on Louise Harrison Caldwell:
In 1963, The Beatles first released "From Me to You" in the U.S. Unfortunately, it barely made even a dent in the charts. Instead, a cover version of the song, released a month later by Del Shannon, became a minor hit, peaking at #77 on the U.S. charts.
Louise Harrison was tirelessly promoting the record and taking it around to radio stations and saying “Hey, my kid brother and his band wrote this song and you should be playing their version instead of Del Shannon’s”.
This is the kind of response she often got in this historic (rejection) letter from KXOK in St. Louis, Mo.
As a mother and a housewife in the 1960’s, Louise Harrison was way ahead of her time. Her efforts promoting the group in the early days should be acknowledged and a part of Beatles history. RIP Louise ️SIDE NOTE - A local radio station, WFRX-AM in nearby West Frankfort played a copy of “From Me to You,” that Louise gave them, which some believe was the first time the record was played in the U.S.
