Paul at Yankee Stadium July 15, 2011!!!! - ARCHIVE

Okay! Well, we got back from NYC late last night. We went to opening night at Yankee Stadium and then spent most of Saturday in the city. The wife and I had a blast! Where to begin? The setlist! AWESOME!! A handful of songs that I've never heard him play before and a few that he hasn't played in quite some time!! Hello Goodbye, Junior's Farm, Maybe I'm Amazed, I Will, I've Just Seen A Face, The Night Before, & Golden Slumbers Medley.... can't say enough how thrilled I am with the latter two songs being played!!!! When he walked over to the piano at the end of the show, I turned to my wife and said, "Oh my gosh... I think he's going to play the Abbey Road medley!!!" Then, when I heard the the piano intro, I jumped up and screamed like a maniac!!! Half way through, I turned to Abbie and told her, "I can't believe he's playing this!!!" I'd never seen him play that live and in-person before... Better than I ever imagined!! I though Paul and the Band brought their A-Game last. I've heard people say he struggled with Maybe I'm Amazed, but I didn't even notice it during the show... and he still sounded better than he did in '05 singing it. Also, the pyro for Live & Let Die... better than Citi Field!!! Incredible!!! I honestly didn't think Paul was going to be able to top last year in Philly, but he did!!! This guy just keeps getting better with age! I am soooo glad we made the ride up to NYC for this show. Now I've got my Paul fix for the summer Just a couple notes about the crowd... my section was LAME... at least, the majority was. There were a couple of rows right in front of me, as well as my row, that were're really into the show. However, I had a woman tap me on the shoulder during "Hello Goodbye"... yes, the first song... and say, "Sir, you have binoculars. All I have is a view of your back. Would you sit down?" She said it in a real obnoxious tone too. Then, when I said, "Lady, it's the first number", she said, "well, I asked you nicely!". So, ticked off a bit, I sat through the rest of the song, but during the tag at the end, I said "screw this, I havn't traveled all the way up here and paid all this money to sit down the whole show!" So I jumped back up and sang my loudest "Hela, heba helloa!" Honestly... why do people go to rock concerts if they expect everyone to sit down all night?? I can understand if someone is standing in front of the you for the entire 3 hours... but during the first song??!!??!! What the heck?!?! Also, the crowd barely reacted to Golden Slumbers... I mean, it was Golden Slumbers!!! I hate to admit, but I think the Sgt Pepper/The End finale got a much bigger reaction from the crowd... I just hope he doesn't switch back as Golden Slumbers is... BY FAR... the better ending. I have to admit, watching him play that had to be one of the thrills of my life!!! Anyway, Paul and band... thanks for a great show!! Abbie and I had a great time in the city yesterday and I wore a Paul shirt and had many people ask me how the show was... even ran into a few people who were there and we got to talk about how great it was! I finally got to see the Dakota building and Strawberry Fields... I've been to NYC plenty of times, but had never been to Central Park before... we loved it!! Then we had lunch at the Seinfeld diner. If I get the chance, I'll post some pictures later.

Thanks to everyone for all the great pics, videos and reports! I'm so jealous! Still hoping he comes back to Atlanta this year or next. Notice in the pics of him smiling broadly how young he looks?!

I was able to get quite a few great shots from last night's show. Happy to share them here and hope you enjoy them. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150243578309480.324146.664394479&l=ab5a5a0f9b While I am using Facebook to share, no offense but I won't friend anyone I don't know!
BEAUTIFUL shots! Did you have a photo pass? If not, did they hassle you about having a DSLR camera?
I just walked in with it (after a week of fretting like crazy). About 350 shots in, some angry guy in a suit and an earpiece came over to me and told me to take the telephoto off, which was timely as artistically I hadn't taken many wide angles yet. With about 30 minutes to go, I put it back on. And kept it there. Regardless, the stage lights are so hot, it was tough to get shots -- exact opposite of any other show I've shot. It's got to be tough on Paul.
Great pics! What kind of camera? Very Very nice!

David Y, Nice photos! I saw a couple other folks with DSLR's Friday night, I don't think they were checking when people went in. But on Sat nite they were hassling people with point-and-shoot and camera phones at first!! Anyway, you got some great shots.

Those shots are great. I'm really hoping I don't get hassled about my camera for the montreal show.

I have tickets to the Detroit show. Based on the New York show were the seat numbers in the front rows ( for example : 1-25 left to right or going the opposite way). Hope this is clear. My tickets are off center (BB) and I was wondering if seat 1 or seat 25 would be closer to center stage. Thanks

My parents were in seats 25 and 26 in section B2 on the floor and they were closer to the stage, about 5 seats away from the aisle. So, it seems like they laid it out in a fairly logical way, so for instance the highest seat number in B2 (let's say seat #30) would precede seat 1 in B3. Of course, this contradicts what someone told me at Wrigley, that seat #1 in each section would be closest to the stage. I guess we are at the mercy of the venue, and things can go differently than they say once the seats are actually laid out and the stage is set up.

I was there last night and am still reliving the night. Some of the more wonderful things include: 1. Paul, of course! He had such energy and presence as always. I'm sure he spoke from experience when he wrote about living life with a sense of childlike wonder. 2. 50,000 people singing along with Paul. So much collective emotion is deeply moving. 3. One sign read, "Hey Paul, I'm Jude." To which Paul replied, "hey, Jude!" 4. The way the crowd repurposed the Yankees "let's go Yankees" cheer to "Paul McCartney" in the same rhythm. Whatever one's opinion of the Yankees might be, that was a perfect tribute to Paul in that venue. 5. The guy doing the closed captioning (not part of Paul's set and a little odd for a rock concert!) had trouble following much of the show, but hit his stride when captioning "na na na na na na na!" 6. The way my dad put his arms around my brother and me during the entirety of let it be. Possibly the most important moment of my night. We were only one of many who were drawn closer to one another through the experience of Paul's music. While I understand why people have complaints about the set list, it does not bother me in the least. I've seen him seven times at this point and I hope to see him many many more.
Hey Oohyou, I'm Jude!! That was my sign at the show on Friday! That Was Me (no pun) lol that was so overwhelming for me! I still can't believe he did that!!

Hey Jude!! That was absolutely brilliant! My dad and I were rolling when Paul called out your sign. Must have been such an amazing experience for you--I hope it ended up on someone's video clip!

It was so amazing!!! I still can't get over it! I don't think I ever will I was so thankful that he did that out of all those signs!! I am really grateful for what happened! It was so surreal for me! Especially during the rest of the night, Nancy's dad was sitting in the section right next to mine and when Hey Jude played he kept on pointing at me and was singing out loud! He looked so happy for me and was so into the show I mean if my daughter was marrying Paul McCartney I would be happy as well! But he was really into the show, it was so awesome!

AMAZING! I'm so excited just hearing about it...I'm sure you're nearly in shock! And I'm sure that if Nancy's dad was having so much fun with it during the song, that he talked about it with Paul when he saw him after the show... )

Just like that if I knew someone who was going to marry Paul, I would be happy. Lol
