I was quite stunned when, at age 18, I first heard this song on the Please Please Me album. The song certainly resonated with me, and I felt it was the supreme example of Mersey Beat music - soulful and yet rock at the same time. It's such a haunting song. and you can practically feel the grey-brown old Mersey flowing through your living room as you listen.

Yet somehow I forgot about the song in the years that followed, as Paul and the Beatles seem to have done too.

Now I find the song is haunting my mind more than any other Beatles production. And I feel like begging Paul: Please, Please, add it to your current6 live repertoire!

I not6e4 that Tom Hanks says it's his favourite Beatles song, and that it had a profoundly beneficial effect on him when he was a lonely child, made him feel that yes, there is a place he could go to and be free of his loneliness.

      There's A Place.

      ''There's a place,
      Where I can go,
      When I feel low,
      When I feel blue....
      And it's my miiiind,
And there's no tiiiime, when I'm alone.....

      I think of you,
      And things you do,
      Go 'round my head,
      The things you said,
      Like "I loooove, only you"......

In my mind there's no sorrow,
Don't you know that it's so?
      There'll be no sad tomorrow,
Don't you know that it's so?

      Theeeeere's a place,
      Where I can go,
      When I feel low,
      When I feel blue.
      And it's my miiiind,
      And there's no tiiiime,

      when I'm alone.

      There's a place...''
