Thanks Kestrel! Paul's mom didn't die until Oct. 31, 1956, so this could still be from the summer of 1956. Paul looks 14 to me, not 15.
If it was the summer of 1956, why isn't Mary in the photo? And Mike did point out that Jean and Ted came to stay after she died. Of course Mary could have been at work or out shopping when the photo was taken, and Jean and Ted could have just popped in for a chat that day. But on balance I would still prefer 1957 as the date. I guess comparing photos with known dated photos of Paul in both 1956 and 1957 for comparison purposes would help.
I tried to edit, but it had been longer than 30 minutes!
I'm always having that trouble. In fact, letting you into a little secret so don't tell anybody , my original post was my third attempt after having had to delete the first two. I really wasn't sure who that woman was so I continued to research for an hour, which kept taking me over the thirty minute cut-off point to re-edit. In the end I had to interpret what Mike was actually saying (and more importantly not saying) in his photo caption.

From Paul's instagram today. Photo of him with his Dad, Jim McCartney. He played the trumpet, and perhaps Paul was thinking of him last night when he played the trumpet for the livestream concert. It was a sweet tribute to him!

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! - Paul

Happy Birthday to Paul's father Jim McCartney, who would be 118 today.

Lift a pint to Paul's father Happy Birthday.

Let's raise a glass to Gentleman Jim!
Video of Paul, Linda and Paul's father Jim, with other McCartney family members, at a pub in Liverpool, 1973. Part of the "James Paul McCartney" special.
"April Showers" is one of the songs they sing in the pub:
Though April showers may come your way
They bring the flowers that bloom in May
So if it's raining have no regrets
Because it isn't raining rain you know, it's raining violets
And where you see clouds upon the hills
You soon will see crowds of daffodils
So keep on looking for a blue bird
And list'ning for his song
Whenever April showers come alongEdited to add:
A few minutes after his father is seated at the pub, Paul introduces a lady to Denny Laine and says "This is my Auntie Dill"... which might be of interest to Mike who created the "Family Tree" thread and was asking about Auntie Dill.

This article states that Paul's parents, Mary and Jim, were the inspiration for the animated film "Ethel and Ernest"
-
^ Where does it say that in the article?
Found this online:
Poignant, funny, and utterly original, Ethel & Ernest is Raymond Briggs's loving depiction of his parents' lives from their chance first encounter in the 1920s until their deaths in the 1970s.

I should have worded it differently, sorry. It was just my own opinion, not that article, that Paul could have been influenced by his parents in the creation of the music for the animated film. And Ethel and Ernest do remind me (in their cartoon appearance) of Jim and Mary. Especially the image of them on their wedding day. I can picture Jim and Mary looking exactly like that.
The article (with link) I gave in previous post states that a song Paul's father had written was included in the film, along with a new composition (at that time) of Paul's. Paul's stepmother Angie said Jim would have been pleased at knowing that. So it was nice that father Jim had a presence in the film!

Yes, the cartoon does remind me too of Jim & Mary - having a child later than most, and the wartime part.
I'm glad Jim lived long enough to see Paul's success with the Beatles and Wings. I just realized that Paul was my son's age (33) when his dad died! -
Coincidentally, Sgt. Pepper cover vaguely resembles this: (Jim Mac circled in red)

That girl sprawled out in the front reminds me of one of the gnomes on the front of George's All Things Must Pass cover?

With Drake's Drum in 1964:

And here is Drake's Drum, retired to Paul's farm in Scotland, circa 1970:

Even on his farm in the middle of nowhere, Paul is still keeping his hand on his wallet. Perhaps he thinks the cat is going to pinch it?

Either that, or he was just scratching an itch!
