Interesting photo. I wonder which river they were on? Someone might be able to identify the bridge? Jim must have been doing the rowing (as well as taking the photo) and Mary was doing the steering as her left hand is on the tiller.

Posted by Paul this morning (at his official instagram) in honor of Mother's Day in the U.K.
Have never seen this one before!! I think it is probably 1946 in the summer. Paul 4, Mike 2 1/2.
Yup, 1946 seems more like the correct date.

Could it possibly be part of the River Mersey? Perhaps this:

Aww such a sweet photo for the British Mother's Day. Stella also had some lovely pictures of her Mum today as well. Nice to see the photos

Possibly but having viewed various images, I can't see anywhere a bridge like in the McCartney family photo. Given they took various holidays (North Wales, Yorkshire etc), the river could be almost anywhere.

perhaps this photo was taken on the same day? Looks like they could be standing on a bridge or walkway.

Yes,definitely the same day. The odds of all three individuals wearing the same combination of clothing on another day would be very unlikely.

I agree - same day.

The UK just had a clap for Carers night to recognize the Nurses and Doctors and people involved in their National Health Service.
National Carers Appreciation in UK
Paul's mum was a nurse and a midwife. Was thinking of Paul writing something to inspire the nurses like his mum , during this time of crisis. I think he could come up with something beautiful and very inspiring, for them. The nurses in the spirit of his mum would love it, I'm sure!!

Photo posted by Paul today on Instagram, of his mum and another nurse with newborn babies they had helped deliver or take care of:

It’s #InternationalNursesDay today and we bless all of them for what they do. Love Paul

Mary looks a lot like her grandmother!

Yes she does but she also looks like her mother too! But she has Paul's dark hair and resembles him as well. Perfect blend of Paul and Linda's genes of course.
I think Paul looks more like his father Jim, and brother Mike resembles their mother Mary. (Just my opinion.)
-
Well, we must agree to disagree. I don't think Mary looks at all like Linda. And I think Paul is a combo of his mum and dad. Mike to me looks more like Jim.

Mary might not have Linda's hair color, but she seems to resemble her more in recent years. She looks like Paul too of course

Relatively rare photo of Paul, dad Jim, Aunt Edie and her 2 boys (was told Ted had arm around Paul and the other is Jean - never heard these names before) Circa 1956.

Paul's aunt Edie had three daughters so I don't think that's her. From information provided in Mike McCartney's caption for this photograph, which was first published in his book 'Thank U Very Much', I think the woman is Edie's daughter Jean Stapleton (who would have been 32 in 1956) and the gentleman standing far right, her husband Edward 'Ted' Merry. The lad with his arm around Paul's shoulder is Mike McCartney !! In the book caption Mike explains that Jean and Ted stayed with the McCartneys after Mary died. Mike also explains that the photo was taken by Paul pulling a piece of string attached to the camera.
As Mary is missing from the photograph and Jean and Ted are there, the photo probably dates from the summer of 1957.

Thanks Kestrel! Paul's mom didn't die until Oct. 31, 1956, so this could still be from the summer of 1956. Paul looks 14 to me, not 15.

If it was the summer of 1956, why isn't Mary in the photo? And Mike did point out that Jean and Ted came to stay after she died. Of course Mary could have been at work or out shopping when the photo was taken, and Jean and Ted could have just popped in for a chat that day. But on balance I would still prefer 1957 as the date. I guess comparing photos with known dated photos of Paul in both 1956 and 1957 for comparison purposes would help.

I tried to edit, but it had been longer than 30 minutes! I said you were correct, that it had to be summer of 1957 since Mary wasn't in the photo and Mike had said Jean & Ted visited after she died. I was busy posting what you said on FB to set the record straight. Tried to find the OP and couldn't, so wrote my own.
