Best Place to Buy the Archive Boxes?
-
I have recently been listening to the Take it Away podcasts and have discovered so much more good material than I ever knew was out there. This makes me want to go back and get all of the boxed sets. Is there a vendor that has particularly good deals on them?

We’re not supposed to suggest any particular seller on here, so I will PM you.
ETA: The PM feature is once again not working for me! 🤬 Maybe someone else can PM beatlejan?

Beatleian,
As Nancy said, I won't name an individual company but my suggestion would be (if you have one) an old fashion large independent "record" store that sells CD's, vinyls, used CD's, etc. I have one in Tampa FL that actually has like 3 stores in the area. Otherwise, your best bet probably be the big direct mail companies (you're probably thinking of the one I have in mind since practically everyone buys from them). I always get emails from them and they have a massive CD/vinyl inventory.
If you have been listening to the "Take It Away" podcasts on this site, you probably have seen some of my replies for the individual podcasts. I'm looking forward to the next one which will be Flaming Pie.
As you know, so far relative to his Post Beatles' Catalog, Paul has been doing his "Archive Collection" Series based on individual Albums. Unfortunately, these packages have been going on at a "snails" pace. Unless you want to pay a lot of money (Box sets with the books, a DVD and other goodies), almost everyone has included an affordabel 2 CD package. I have purchased all of them. The 2nd CD in these packages have always been my primary interest because they contain B-sides, rarities etc. Some of the packages have been better than others. So far, I have liked BOTR, Venus and Mars and McCartney 2 the best.
I get the feeling that Paul is "holding back" however until a time that he releases a massive all inclusive Box Set full of Unreleased material etc. A good example of "holding back" was the "Ram" Archive release. Ram was a period when Paul had a large number of songs he had written that were never on the actual Ram album. Very few of these were actually on the Ram 2nd CD. And of course Paul still hasn't done an Archive Release of Red Rose Speedway which has even more unreleased material.
My replies in the Take It Away series has been calling for Paul to do a "Lost and Forgotten" type of Anthology or Compilation Package. As I have said, this should be done by Decade. So far, Paul could easily do a 2 CD package for each decade that for "true" fans like us would be great. I have put suggested track lists for the 70's, 80's and 90's and Paul easily has enough material of songs that do not duplicate his existing compilations like Wingspan, All the Best, and his latest Pure McCartney. All of these cover his hits and most known songs. As we know, Paul has so many "unknown" gems and that is what I hope he someday does. But of course, his next project will be a brand new album/Cd which hopefully is release this Fall. My guess is that if we ever get a "Lost and Forgotten" type big package, we will have to wait to 2020 or 2021. By that time he will have 5 Decades of material to cover. Us Macca music nuts have to have a lot of patience. In the meantime, I love YouTube to hear so many of the great unreleased, B-Sides and "live" material that Paul has done.

Really? You can't say another store's name? I know links may be frowned upon but names too?

Yeah definitley interested in the box sets. I have the Ram one and it is fantastic but aside from BOTR, McCartney, and RAM I only knew the other albums at a distance. Really enjoying getting into the full albums, especially Venus and Mars, Flowers, and Off the Ground.

You’re probably right, maybe it’s just links to items. He got in touch with me through PM and I was able to answer.
P.S. Sorry I wrote beatlejan, but it is beatleian!

Beatleian,
Another Paul album (and available in the affordable 2 Disc package as well as a full box set) is Tug of War. As a long standing, big time fan I would put Tug of War among his Post Beatles' Top 5 albums. Many good to great songs are on this CD.

I forgot to mention Tug of War as well! Can't believe I left that out but I am more familiar with that one than some.
