Hi:  Please excuse if this has been previously posted. Some years ago I was given the dvd box set as a gift. This is a set that I have come to enjoy a lot. Unfortunately, all of the disc have for reason that I can not explain stop playing. I am a collector so I keep them in pristine condition.  It appears to be that the material used in manufacturing were sub par.  It’s not optical disc rot since they still look the same.  Has anybody else in the forum encounter this?  I must understand I cant be the only one or that this was not brought up to the  label or producers attention in the past.

Just as well, by today’s standard, I am wondering if it will ever be released in Blu-ray format

Anybody  in the forum or McCartney organization have any news?

      Please advise

      Kind regards

I assume your other DVDs play okay and it is not the player that is defective? I have the McCartney Years set and it plays fine.

That seems most strange. I would say wash the discs in soapy water but you say you keep them in pristine condition. I was thinking could thay be inferior pirated copies. Do they look authentic ?

Listen to the song they sing,
          Awakening

Hi Nancy:  Yes all other dvds play fine. All though some other dvds in the past have stop playing but it was due to what is call optical disc rot. Sometimes created by the type of paint over the disc surface.  I am curious to know if anybody else have encountered this issue.

Hi  Apollo:  They are authentic, not dvd-r’s.  The manufacturing was done in the USA.  It’s definitely a manufactured run that somehow was not up to quality control.

The problems is compounded by the fact that there are 3 companies involved.

The issue has been reported on the Steve Hoffman forum by some owners of the DVD too but with no resolution - see link below.

It seems, judging by the posts there, that it is in fact caused by (premature) disc rot/discolouration and the likely outcome is that you will have to buy a new copy of the discs unfortunately.

"Never guess. Unless you have to. There's enough uncertainty in the universe as it is." - The Fourth Doctor (Logopolis 1981).

My DVDs from that that set looked fine but stopped playing, so I had to buy a new set.

Just watched “Tug Of War” from the set - so sad at the end of the video where Linda disappears and Paul is left alone. Poignant prescience! 😢

Just watched the entire disc 1. What is weird is that after the song Wonderful Christmastime, it goes directly into the Extras which is supposed to be The South Bank Show, then Junior’s Farm, then Band On The Run, London Town and Mull Of Kintyre 2.  Here’s what I see: Paul interview and parts of Give My Regards To Broadstreet, then outtakes from Band On The Run shoot where they are getting dressed, then Bluebird, then BOTR photo session with the song playing along. Next comes Junior’s Farm (who is the blond drummer?!)  then skips to London Town (isn’t that Victor Spinetti as the mime?)  and finally is a 2nd version of Mull Of Kintyre.

Is all the stuff before Junior’s Farm The South Bank Show?

Hi Johnnymain:  As per optical disc manufacturing, all disc are guaranteed to play. If not, they are binded  to replace it. The problem here is that you have no less than 3 companies to figure out who is the responsible party. WEA, Rhino and MPL. I posted it here in Paul’s webpage to see if admin. would take notice of it.  Seems they don’t. Hence, we have to live with it

Bummer, since it’s one of those packages that you really enjoy watching/hearing every once in a while. Specially the 5.1 surround mixing...

Will  see is anybody at mpl will even bother to check.

                      thanks for your reply.

                      DR

No its not. 'The South Bank Show' (this edition being shown on 14th October 1984) is the 'GMRTBS' section. The show's host Melvyn Bragg can be heard at one point doing the voice over. Next up is the BOTR promo film from late 1973 which isn't credited for some strange reason. Maybe it was a very late inclusion after the packaging had been done? And then its the 'Top Of The Pops' (20th November 1974) performance of Junior's Farm, featuring (imho) Wings best drummer,Geoff Britton.  And yes, that is Victor Spinetti in the 'London Town' video, filmed on 21st March 1978.

Btw, my edition which was being sold in the UK (region 2/3/4/5 compatible discs) plays fine so dsrmas's problem might be confined to region 1 discs?

Thanks for the info Kestrel. On my copy, after The South Bank Show, it says Band On The Run. It was just very confusing with all that other stuff in there.

I've just had another look and on the actual disc menu my copy does say Band On The Run - The Cover Shoot after Eleanor's Dream and before Junior's Farm so it is in right position on the disc menu. The problem is with the play lists printed on the box itself where Band On The Run is also listed (no mention of cover shoot though) but its placed after Junior's Farm and before London Town.

Look up the Wikipedia enry as it identifies the correct track listing.

                                          Hey Paul,
My DVD set "The McCartney Years" stopped working and was wondering if you're planning to release a new DVD set with new songs on it? Thanks,
                                          Tom

                                          Hey Everybody,
Saw Paul McCartney 7 times in concert and been a fan of his since 1964. Took my wife Josie to see her first Paul McCartney's concert in 2005 in Philadelphia and we are now living in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
