Paul McCartney 2017 Rumors

forget 64:
Does anyone know of Paul not playing anywhere because a leader or a president was voted in legally by the laws of the country of a Truly free Democracy such as the US ?
The answer to that question Phil is never! And it won't start here. He knows there is a boat load of money to be made here!
Last time I checked Paul isn't exactly short on dollars and isn't doing concerts at 74 because he needs or cares about the money. He was a huge Barack and Clinton supporter. Not saying he won't do US. Especially since his wife is American. But He could decide to make a silent statement and go to other destinations he hasn't done before or for a long time.

"Hey, back then we thought [Putin] was a good guy!" - after the critical Dutch crowd started booing at the mention of the Russian leader, Ziggo Dome '15

I don't know who you saw in Orlando in 2016 but it wasn't Paul. He didn't play Florida last year.

He means the flags that they carried in solidarity for the victims of the Orlando massacre last year, which they waved at one of the Euro shows in June ( I forget which gig).

I've seen Paul 126 times in concert and yet to see him make a political statement.
"[Luckily] now we've got President Obama" - 'Blackbird', 2009/2010
I recall he used to have a picture of Obama that would show up during "Sing the Changes" as well.
-
Paul had Obama's face on screen for "Sing The Changes" for several years. He dedicated "Michelle" to the former first lady in DC in '09 as well. While in DC last year, a "Paul for President" sign was held to which Paul said "No comment!" after much cheering from the audience...and those are just the things in recent years that I have seen. I'm sure there has been more.
-
I guess an argument can be made that those are political statements and maybe I should have clarified what I mean. Putting up a picture , or a rainbow flag or dedicating a song in support of someone is a very mild political statement. What I am referring to, is those artists who will go on a 5-10 minute rant....like a Springsteen or Roger Waters where the message is not in support but an attacking political message. I have never seen Paul deliver a message like that ever. And with that,I'll end my part as it is supposed to be a fun forum and don't want it to be like Facebook.

I posted a link to that on the previous page.

I understand what you're saying here, Bob, and agree with you. Paul can wear a T-shirt with a political slogan, drape himself in a flag, and occasionally flash a photo of a person or cause that's important to him, but he's never made a lengthy political statement at one of his concerts, like Meryl Streep did at the recent Golden Globes. I think he lets his music speak for itself. It tells alot about him, and how he feels. In my opinion he'd rather bring people together in a positive way through his music. That's what he and the Beatles were all about... we can be different but the music will always be something that brings us together! That in itself can inspire us to be better people than we were before.
-
I think he understands better than many artists that when you make these lengthy rants that the US is a very divided nation politically and that you are bound to insult half your crowd with these rants.

I think that's very true... whenever there's an important vote in Britain, he's always very tactful in not stating his own opinion, probably for the same reason, which is understandable. He may have his personal views, but he's always mindful of the right way they should be expressed.

As posted, indeed the Orlando shooting, addressed in Berlin, a gig you might have missed ;).

Facebook is some kind of negative factor? I think everyone in this topic on this subject has been very fair so far. For the rest it's clear, and I agree with your clarified point: McCartney is smart, he's not going to touch the international laughing stick of the US the coming 4 years, since a part of his target audience foolishly voted for him. And staying away is even less of a concern, as long as the American economy will remain stable under the "leadership" of the current kamikaze pilot.

I wouldn't be booing abut Putin, I'd be more likely to boo because he's told everyone that story!

Hahaha, that's the joke I made at the time as well, that our crowd was critical of the fact 80% of the show was identical to what we had already seen a few times in the years before . But Russia is a touchy subject over here since MH17, and this was not even a year after, so not very considerate. It happens to the best of us!

I doubt many Paul fans are Trump-holes. You'd be more likely to find them at Ted Nugent or hick redneck country music concerts. Trump and the anti-environmental authoritarian Republicans are the antithesis of everything Paul and The Beatles stand for. As for the U.S. economy, that could be pushed to the brink of collapse quick with immigration--tourism interference and trade wars.

Although I did miss that one, I have seen Paul in Berlin and have visited the city several times. Loved my time there as well in Hamburg. Hoping to visit more of Germany in the future

So anyone hear anything about 2017? Beyond Japan? Where would he even play in the US this year?
-
Things are dead silent but it is still rather early for summer rumors. Only US rumor I've heard is Raleigh but have no idea whether it has any merit. Totally unknown source and over a month ago, I tend to doubt it. I here a possible addition on 4/25 and maybe 1 more added in that area

Thanks, Bob, that's something at any rate. Wondering about May since he's usually *somewhere, whether US, UK, South America...
