Flower Power cruise 2020
-
Just got my cabin for this cruise. I bet it is totally sold out in a few days! The people who just finished the 2019 cruise had 1st dibs to rebook for 2020, then the presale for returning cruisers (I went in 2018) was today at 9 am EST. Sale to general public is tomorrow. If anyone is interested, here’s the link:

On ABC Nightly News tonight they said "Don't get on a cruise ship." Great. Our cruise is a charter which will not be refunded or credited by Celebrity. Has to be by Star Vista who arranged the cruise. Unless they (or our government) cancel the cruise/all cruises for the foreseeable future, we are effed! Why they are allowing cruise ships to still sail is beyond me! Even though they are screening us prior to boarding (taking temps, etc) you know someone will get sick during the voyage and then we will be stuck in quarantine for at least 2 weeks! If they won't refund us, just credit us for the 2021 cruise which is already in pre-sale to alumni cruisers.
-
Found out today Delta will refund entire cost of my flight! And the hotel for the night before the cruise can be cancelled without any charge. Now if only Star Vista would wise up and cancel the cruise. They could let us put the money we paid toward the 2021 cruise.

Sending prayers your way. I don't blame you for not wanting to go. It's like a Petri Dish. Plus the Demander in chief didnt want to let the people who were on the cruise, off the coast of San Francisco off, "because it would hurt his numbers on the virus" Too late for that! You can't demand a virus to stop because the numbers are growing... Thank goodness Pance let them off! Good Luck to you!

Thanks! Unless either the government or StarVista cancels the cruise, I will be out a lot of money. I was traveling alone (and meeting up with friends) so paid extra for solo cabin. Three of my friends have already said they're not going. Another friend's husband just had a TIA (stroke) and I doubt they'll go. The whole thing is a hot mess/clusterf@&k!

The cruise was cancelled/postponed (?) by StarVista/Celebrity! Yay! This is the final saga in the "cancellation" war! Posted this on our FB Flower Power chat group:
It is currently 2:20 am. I was on hold from 12 am to 1:30 am ET with Delta. Got the runaround from an Oriental sounding woman who was not going to honor what a previous customer service rep promised me about a week ago. (wasn’t ready to cancel yet) So, I asked to speak to her supervisor. He was real nice and apologized for putting me on hold several times for a few minutes, but eventually I got an even better deal than the first guy promised! I got 10,000 points returned to me (instead of just a measly $100 for them), plus the rest of the plane fare ($376.60) will be credited to my Delta Sky Miles AMEX card! I made sure he knew ahead of time that I was a loyal Delta customer for all the many (but one) plane trips I’ve taken in my life, and a longtime Delta Sky Miles member. So, if you find yourself in the same situation, ask to speak to a supervisor! Persistence pays - I was on the phone with them from 1:30 - 2:15 am!! Luckily I’m a night owl and always stay up until at least 3 am and sleep until about 11 am! So, everything is sorted now except whether the 2020 cruise will be re-scheduled or just totally cancelled and then I’ll go on the 2021 FP cruise. ️ P.S. Also already cancelled hotel (no charge) and the (worthless) insurance. Next year getting it from Travel Guard/AIG.

My wife and I are scheduled to take cruise to Alaska in mid May. Princess cruise line anounced this week they are not sailing for two months and will resume 5 days before our cruise is scheduled. Princess just revised their cancelation policy and we can now cancel up to 72 hours before the cruise date and get full refund. If we take the cruise, we will get an additional $200 shipboard credit. American Airlines has told us we have until April 30th to cancel our flight in mid May. The hotel we are staying at before the cruise, we can cancel reservation up to 48 hours before the date.

IMHO, you should totally cancel this trip since you can get full refund for everything. If my cruise gets rescheduled too early (May) I will probably choose to go on the 2021 cruise next March.

We have a wait and see attitude at this time since we have plenty of time to monitor the situation. Princess will be closed for two months so there is plenty of time to do some excellent cleaning of all ships. Workers will be off and hopefully like the rest of us are staying away from crowds etc and being healthy. Alaska cruises are usually not full of young people so an older crowd is more likely to take care of themselves with this virus. I told my wife I am leaving the decision up to her. If we got stuck on a ship for some reason, she is the one who would miss work. I am retired now (yeah) so it would not be as bad for me. I have no problem putting the trip off to a later time, guess we will see in a bunch of weeks.

So happy you got this! I've been praying for you.
Going on a cruise in November. In the footsteps of Apostle Paul. Im really looking forward especially to see Israel and Greece! Hope we're all better by then. Going to miss the election at home. My family wants to be away then.

Hope you are able to go. I got my 10,000 miles back in my Delta Sky Miles account! The $ hasn't credited Amex yet, though. StarVista is going to announce a reschedule date for the 2020 cruise. I hope they don't say May-July - that is too soon! I will probably opt for the 2021 cruise next March.
Also, who knows - Beatleweek in August may cancel and I'd have to deal with getting money back for that! Have different (better) insurance for that trip. Would get 100% ($2200) back, then I'd have to get my Delta Sky Miles returned.
My mom and I voted early (last Thursday) before they postponed the Mar. 24th primary. It will be in April sometime.

The 2020 was postponed to 2021. Now the 2021 has been postponed again to Mar. 28 - Apr. 4, 2022! A lot of the original bands have signed up again and we will be going to the same ports we would have in 2021 (San Juan, Puerto Playa (Dominican Republic) and Labadee (Haiti) I have been to Labadee a long time ago - 2012 - but not the others.

San Juan is neat place. We only had a few hours in Old San Juan (2015) so we did "The Flavors Of San Juan" tour which was a walking tour combined with having a bit of local cuisine at a few places. If you have all day there, you may want to check out several forts or take sunset walk down the Paseo La Princesa. Since cruise is not until 2022, you have plenty of time to research.

This cruise has been postponed twice, but hopefully we'll be able to sail next year. I had to get AA tickets when it was 2021 because they moved the port of sailing to Miami and at that time Delta didn't fly non-stop to Miami (they do now) So I ended up with a $246 credit that they told me was only good until Mar. 31, 2022, but the cruise ends Apr. 4th!! So what I did was got a one-way from Atlanta to Miami on Mar. 27th and used part of the credit. Then a couple nights ago I got a one-way on Delta from Miami to Atlanta using my Delta Sky Miles points. AA prices were insane for a one-way on Apr. 4th - $972!! (The ticket on Mar. 27th was $130!) I will NEVER use AA again! They have since said I can use the rest of my credit through May 2022, but Delta is allowing all credits to be used through Dec. 31, 2022.

Good luck !! I think you will see cruise ships return to sailing this summer so I think you will be good for 2022. We have Alaskan cruise that has been canceled twice and now rescheduled for June 2022. If something happens to it, I give up !! I assume AA is American Airlines. In my town (Charlotte NC), American is a hub and has about 90% of the flights that leave Charlotte. We had flight to Seattle canceled due to our cruise being canceled and got full credit. We used part of it for a flight to Florida and still have several hundred dollars left to use . We were told there is no expiration date on the remaining credit but we will use it later in 2021 or early 2022 to make sure -lol. That transaction went very easily with thankfully no hassles.
