An update on the ongoing construction and traffic/parking conditions around Miller Park: For those of you planning on staying around the airport/coming from the Chicago area I-94 from the airport to downtown Milwaukee is a complete disaster. I would avoid this route to Miller Park. A normal 10 minute drive took me almost an hour at non rush hour time the other day. I think taking the I-894 bypass and coming in from the south on 27th, 43rd, 60th St. will save time and aggravation...but who knows. Also, parking has now been restricted on most streets around Miller Park. Bluemound Rd and side streets: NO PARKING 1 hr prior to and after stadium events. National Ave. now restricts parking to 2 hrs until 8pm (was 6PM) every day! In short, you are almost forced to use the stadium lots now unless you really want to walk! Or you can always hop on a shuttle from somewhere. With the road construction and gates opening at 5PM, which is the worst of rush hour, it will be nuts. I did ask a public relations person at the Brewers game yesterday if there would be a chance of opening the gates earlier so traffic would not be backed up on the access roads and I-94 and the response I got was 'we'll forward your suggestion'. So, maybe if enough people call the Brewers offices and voice their opinions we can convince them to open the parking lots earlier. Worth a try!

Thanks for the update, Bernie! I hope they will open the lots sooner. I had asked about it before so they should be aware that this is a concern. The more of us who prod them the better.

Do they run the Park-n-ride shuttles like they have for Summerfest?

Here's the link to the Milwaukee County Transit System: www.ridemcts.com They should be able to answer your question.

When will the tickets purchased on the Brewers website be mailed? Anybody have any idea?

So we are saying that this road work is going to be all summer and if you are staying downtown and near the airport we will have major problems getting to Miller Park?? What about the area west of there say Brookfield??

That is where I would recommend staying.

well Damn I have reservations at the pfister...I was looking forward to checking out the hotel. Plus I thought I would like the downtown area to walk around...I am bringing my 15 year old grandson and I thought that would be a good place.

You should be in good shape from downtown to Miller Park...It's from the airport to downtown that is a mess. I would recommend taking Canal St or Wisconsin Ave/Bluemound Rd to the ballpark from downtown and not I-94 at rush hour which is when the gates open. Coming from the west will be a toss up. By all means enjoy your stay at the Pfister and enjoy all the great restaurants around Water St and the Third Ward.
-
I remember Paul's people taking over the Pfister in 2002 but he might have stayed elsewhere.
-
Thanks for the information folks. I am really torn on where to stay...I think the grandson would enjoy the downtown area, the other places appear to be a little more barren, at least west of the ballpark. I am also thinking of taking him out for a sailboat ride. My wife and I did that the day we came up for Ringo in 2003. By the way when we were there we stayed in a hotel that I could not find, or did not recognize the name at my older age now, but the hotel was a local one not a chain and had a roof top lounge area. We sat up there having a beer watching boat races. seems like it was on the northen side of town..Is that now the Days Inn?? it was like three blocks from the shoreline. Would it be the Knickerbocker??
-
I'm staying with a cousin north of downtown Milwaukee. Mapquest is showing going from his place to I-94 and going south for about 3 miles to Exit 308. It says about 30 minutes, but I never truly believe that!

That could be the one. And it's actually available and cheaper than the Pfister. But I think you could be referring to the Astor Hotel, as well.

I've stayed at the Astor in one of their apartment units and liked it. There's not much in walking distance, however.

It very well could be the Astor, because there was not a whole lot of retail around..In 2003 when we were there they were doing a remodel.
