Sounds like many of us here need a breath of fresh air when it comes to Paul's current Live Shows and corresponding setlists. Almost by accident I listened to the audio (On U-Tube) of the complete Last Flight in Glasgow 1979 Show. I would love if Paul's team would release a full movie (like Rockshow) of the Show. The thing that struck me about this show (and why it is a breath of fresh air compared to the Out There and One on One tours) is that this concert was just 3 years after Wings Over America tour. The Glasgow Show was a "totally different" show and actually had less Beatle songs than 1976 (5 to 3 I think). Now is that refreshing compared to today. Here was the setlist: Got to Get You Into My Life - at the time, it was the 1st time ever performed live Get Closer - new from Back to the Egg...sounded great Every Night - not played in 1976; great choice and slower arrangement than original Again Again Again - new from 1977 Londontown...nice nod to Denny Laine I've Had Enough - new from Londontown...sounded great No Words - not played in 1976...the harmonizing with Denny and Paul sounded great Old Siam Sir - new from Back to the Egg...sounded great Maybe I'm Amazed - 1st duplication from 1976 show Let It Be - not played in 1976; loved Paul's soulful phrasing on this one Twenty Flight Rock - not played in 1976...Paul always sounds great on this one Arrow Through Me. new from Back to the Egg ...loved it Wonderful Christmas- new from 1978; since it was Christmas time...hardly surprising Coming Up...new and not even released yet; would Paul ever do that today Goodnight tonight...new single from earlier that year Yesterday...2nd duplication and he gave Glasgow a complete version vs. 1976 Mull of Kintyre...new single from 1977 Band on the Run -show closer and 3rd duplication ONLY 3 DUPLICATIONS FROM 1976 SHOW. I THINK TODAY WE'RE LUCKY IF THE TOTAL # SONGS THAT ARE NOT DUPLICATIONS MIGHT BE 3 What a lost opportunity for Paul not having a full Worldwide tour (especially in North America) in 1980. It probably would have given him opportunity to add a few more 70's songs that were not done in 1976 (i.e. Junk, The Mess, Single Pigeon, Tomorrow, Little Lamb Dragonfly). The other thing is that I think Paul would have dramatically sold more copies of Back to the Egg. Hearing those songs live would have resonated with the audience to the point where many would have gone out and bought the album. There would have also been an opportunity for a 3 Sided Live Album similar to Wings Over America. Even with Paul getting arrested in Japan, why did he decide to pull the plug on Wings. The Japan arrest as far as I know would not have prevented him from Legally Touring the US and Canada. By the way, I thought Laurence Jubor and Steve Holly were very capable musicians as replacements for Jimmy and Joe. At least from the audio of the show, they sounded very good on electric guitar and drums respectively. The only 2 songs that I didn't like from the Glasgow show was Wonderful Christmastime and Goodnight Tonight. The latter is too disco for my taste and Paul would not have played a Christmas song if he had done a US/Canada tour anyway. Just didn't care for Wonder Christmastime live. One Question; I was listening to Last Flight and was writing the setlist down. I might have missed a song or two. Did they play Spin It On or any other song that I missed on my above list.

such a concert on bluray would be the best we could get (after we finally got Rockshow)! According to the book "8 arms to hold u" this was this set setlist: 01 Got to Get You Into My Life 02 Getting Closer 03 Every Night 04 Again and Again and Again 05 I've Had Enough 06 No Words 07 Cook of the House 08 Old Siam Sir 09 Maybe I'm Amazed 10 The Fool on the Hill 11 Let It Be 12 Hot as Sun 13 Spin it On 14 Twenty Flight Rock 15 Go now 16 Arrow Through Me 17 Wonderful Christmas 18 Coming Up 19 Goodnight tonight 20 Yesterday 21 Mull of Kintyre 22 Band on the Run By the way Let me Roll it and With a little Luck are songs which were rehearsed for the japan tour...

Agree with all the points made here. Remember, Paul had three years in between those tours. From the 1989/90 tour to 1993, he had three years and had an almost completely different set list. Now, Paul tours non-stop from year to year, so can't change things up much. Or won't. I wish he had this tour schedule in the 80s and 90s. And then did a tour every two or three years now. For his voice. So be it.

___________________________________________________ Mr. Flamingpie Thanks so much. Don't know why the U-tube audio of the show did not include all the songs. Cook of the House of course gave Linda a chance to be the lead vocalist on one song. Paul was always good about giving others in the band a chance to shine. I don't have a problem with it but I sense that it wouldn't go well with many especially when there are so many other songs the audience would be longing to hear...but give Paul credit. If anyone was at this show, I would be curious how Linda did. While she did a nice job on harmonies, not sure her voice is strong enough on lead. Fool on the Hill would have been the 4th Beatle songs at this show...still very low relatively speaking. Hot as Sun didn't surprise me as it was a bonus track on the McCartney album Archive Series Spin It On... another one I would have loved to hear live. Go Now - Little surprised that Paul would have repeated it from the 76 show but it is Denny Lane's signature song. It would have given the show a grand total of 4 Duplications from the 1976 Tour. We would be thrilled with that kind of duplication rate today. And to have With a Little Luck as an additional song, I would have killed to see that show if they expanded the tour to the US. If musical pundits listed great, all time musical groups in the modern era, Wings might not be listed because they weren't around long enough. A 2nd very successful World Tour might have changed many minds. As I said before, I think Laurence Juber and Steve Holly were plenty good enough to have made this a very good tour.

I think the reason this set list was very different was due to the following reasons. First, Wings had two brand new members who just finished recording "Back To The Egg so this was wonderful opportunity to be creative with set list. Secondly, Mr. McCartney was in a totally different mind set back then in regards to his set list. He was not in "Beatle Paul" mode back then and was definitely doing a Wings concert. He actually played things that were not done live yet since the last tour and not just his most current CD. Finally, this was just the beginning of a tour and Mr. McCartney was probably just trying songs out to see how they would work being played live. If this tour would have gone forward into the USA for example, it might have changed a bit. The other thing is this opportunity with a different Wings lineup is similar to 2002 when he went back out on tour with almost an entire new band (exception of Wix). Mr. McCartney had not toured in almost 10 years so there was excitement about this tour. This was the golden opportunity for Mr. McCartney to just play more solo songs than the current CD (Driving Rain). His audience was not fixated yet expecting a Beatle heavy concert from Mr. McCartney. IMO and I believe yours, this was our best chance to hear more of the solo songs we loved live. Unfortunately, it was not to be.

                    Maybe I'm amazed !!

Agree with all the points made here. Remember, Paul had three years in between those tours. From the 1989/90 tour to 1993, he had three years and had an almost completely different set list. Now, Paul tours non-stop from year to year, so can't change things up much. Or won't. "Now, Paul tours non-stop from year to year, so can't change things up much. Or won't. " As I have said many times, Mr. McCartney is a rock icon and has had this band with him for close to 15 years . It would not take much to do maybe 5 different songs never done live before for him and the band IMO. It is he does not want to, plain and simple.

                      Maybe I'm amazed !!

"Cook of the House of course gave Linda a chance to be the lead vocalist on one song. Paul was always good about giving others in the band a chance to shine. " Not trying to be mean to Linda but I have a feeling if this tour would have moved on to the USA, this song would have been eliminated. One thing to do this in Glasgow, totally different doing this in NYC the media capital of the world. BTW - Imagine Mr. McCartney ending a concert now with a non Beatle song - lol !!

                        Maybe I'm amazed !!

I was at this concert, as well as the other two Scotland shows and Wings' night at the Concert for Kampuchea. Still 4 of my most favorite Paul concerts ever. 😉 Linda came out from behind her keyboards to sing Cook of the House at the front of the stage. I give her an "A" for effort; listen here:

The '79 shows were all performed in theatres, and it would have been interesting to see whether Cook of the House would have been dropped had the tour continued. The lack of Beatles songs during the '79 shows was very obvious to those of us who were there.

Looking back, I really believe that Paul was reluctant to play a lot of Beatles tunes prior to Dec. 8, 1980. I wonder if it was in the back of Paul's mind ..."what would John think if I played mostly Beatles"?? If you notice in 1984 Paul did quite a few Beatle songs in "Give My Regards To Broad Street". And, his first major tour (1989) after John passed was half Beatle half solo / Wings songs. Coincidence....maybe.

The 79 tour saw him cop a bit of flak. A lot of folks thought his voice was damaged. (There's irony for ya) The setlist copped a bit of flak too. "Where were the Venus and Mars songs?" "Cook Of The House, Hot As Sun, 20 Flight Rock...WTF?" The playing was loose (some said sloppy) compared to the preceding tour and it might even have been a shorter show... Paul wasn't entirely happy or satisfied with that tour. Over the years it's become many fans favourite tour - BECAUSE of the setlist and the raspiness of his vocals. Linda copped heaps of heckling too...and these being mainly theatre shows to small sudiences, made the heckling quite audible. Steve and Laurence give Wings a punchier sound too. It's a shame they didn't get to play on a follow up album. I love the 79 UK tour. I love Last Flight too. An official remixed issue with Rockestra Theme and Lucille would be awesome. Never mind all this Pure McCartney piffle!

I really don't see it. I think he was just determined for Wings to be known for NOT resting on Beatles.

As I said in earlier post, really think this was basically a tryout tour. Change in Wings lineup and songs never done live before so I believe he was trying to see what songs worked. I am sure if it truly became a world tour, changes would have been made. Of course they were not as well polished as the 76 Wings lineup but that should have been expected. Wings did small tours in the early 70's before doing the world tour in 1976.

                                  Maybe I'm amazed !!

__________________________________________________________ Robert, You might have given me a few theories as to why Paul just blew up Wings. And you're right... too bad for Steve and Laurence. They seem to be very good players and good guys. I have heard Laurence on a Breakfast with the Beatles show 4-5 years ago in Philadelphia and he seemed like a great guy. I think he had just released a CD with Beatle and Paul covers...very talented. The radio show was playing a couple of the songs from the album. I got the feeling he was very disappointed that Wings dissolved so quickly. I think I read somewhere that Linda was not keen about another World Tour. With James being born and with 4 kids (one a teenager) it makes sense that it would be harder to drag the kids on a major tour with them. At the same time, she probably wouldn't want to be away from them either. I never realized that on the 79 mini tour that they had played smaller theatre shows. Getting heckled why being out front playing Cook of the House might have dampen her enthusiasm also. Then I heard when Paul got jailed she was very upset. With this happening before the actual World Tour began, you can almost guess what she was saying to Paul when they got home from Japan. And if Paul wasn't too pleased with the 79 tour, maybe it didn't take too much coaxing for Paul to agree. Maybe with all the stress from the Japanese Jailing fiasco, Paul wanted to abandon another World tour also. Maybe he had the same feelings that Linda had about touring because of the difficulty it would pose for their family. Going Solo would make it much easier for family and personal life. What were Paul's quotes/comments at the time regarding the drug bust, the future touring with his new Wings' Band etc. It is ironic about the flak from the setlist and his vocals in 79. You would think that with all the new Wings' songs (and the new Beatle songs...Let It Be, Got to Get You into My Life, Fool on the Hill) that people would be thrilled and they would put up with Cook of the House, Hot as Sun, and Twenty flight Rock. And his voice sounded good to me judging by the audio from that Last Flight in Glasgow show. He sounded great on MIA, Let It Be and Yesterday for example.

Moptops, interesting observations. Did you see any shows on the tour? I don't recall any problems with Paul's voice or Linda being heckled at the 4 shows I saw. Maybe the Scottish audiences were kinder to her. One player who was definitely not sloppy was Laurence. I always thought his solo on Let It Be was quite precise. As to the cancelled 1980 tour, I don't know the scale but I do remember hearing that after Japan, Australia was planned and then the US.

The '79 tour was intended to recommence in Japan of course, then tentatively, Australia and on to the United States.
