Very sad news that early Beatles photographer Astrid Kirchherr has died on Wednesday just days before her 82nd birthday. I have mentioned this in the RIP...thread (Talk More Talk) but I think Astrids career behind the camera needs celebrating with a thread of its own.

Very saddened to hear this today. Oddly, on Twitter, Pete Best was wishing her a Happy Birthday on the 14th (her birthday is the 20th) then today was writing about her passing, which was the 12th. Read that it was a "short illness."

I see today that Paul has paid tribute to Astrid on his social media accounts....and has managed to marry Astrid and Stuart off in the process. Nice one Paul. Either he knows something that the rest of the world doesn't or senile dementure is creeping in !!

Kestrel, I believe in Mark Lewisohn's book, Tune In, he talks about how Astrid and Stu had a private (just the two of them) "wedding ceremony" where they exchanged rings and considered themselves husband and wife. That's why Paul said what he did.

That's interesting, I don't recall that part of the book (I'm getting senile too
) but that would explain Paul's comment. 
However,they weren't (officially) married and I think it was probably unwise for Paul to infer that they were. No doubt there will be countless Beatle books written in the future which will have Stuart & Astrid married based on Paul's message. -

You're correct, though - they weren't officially legally married. (I suppose they could have been considered common-law married)

On page 395 (standard edition) Mark writes in the chapter A Cellarful of Oiks (1 October - 31 December 1960):
'On 28 November, Stu and Astrid exchanged rings and announced themselves engaged.'
I've checked the index and apart from a couple of mentions of them planning to get married, I can't see any other reference to the couple exchanging rings and considering themselves married.

Sorry, I wrote an answer before I realized what book you were referring to! (Cellarful of Oiks made me think of Cellarful of Noise!) My standard edition must be numbered slightly different than yours. My page 395 is the "Year 4, 1961 The Rock Age" chapter.
Anyway, I found the quote on page 382. Also looked in the unabridged edition and there was nothing new. Maybe I read it somewhere else.

That's page 407 of my edition. ( First published in Great Britain in 2013 by Little, Brown. Reprinted 2013).
I can't see that the text has been edited further for your (US) edition so I guess perhaps they have been getting more text on a page?
