Strange to read of someone calling that track beloved, it's just filler really, hardly a song. So many great tracks on the White album, but that's not one of them. You'd have to be a totally uncritical Beatle fan to think otherwise.

"Would still be regarded as one of McCartney's better compositions"??? In what parallel universe? The song is a mildly amusing trifle, but that's all. It's not even his best song on that side of the album.
