I was thinking just that a few months back. The second week of next February will mark the sad occasion when more time has elapsed since John died than all the time that he had lived !!

The wonderful thing is that, with all the passage of time, so much of John's music sounds so fresh, almost like it was made yesterday. It's no wonder that new generations keep discovering the Beatles - people are always looking for inspiration through music, and they don't find it in most pop and rock music today. They will always find it in the Beatles because they had something special, and the genius of George Martin helped them present it to the world. Equally, the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Gershwin and the writers of the Great American Songbook are still celebrated today because they too have something special.

BBC4 have on right now programmes commemorating  what would have been Johns 80th Birthday, there was a Hard Days Night, A Top of the Pops Special and a documentary about John and Yokos life in New York.

I watched part of Abbey Road On The River's John Tribute of Tim Piper's set, then watched The Fab Four host about 20 singers doing John songs - most were from Plastic Ono Band album! I had met or seen in person 10 out of the 21.

Just finished watching the TV special of John Lennon in NYC. It was so well done. Have been thinking of John today... and thinking about being in Central Park at Strawberry Fields for John's 70th birthday. Everyone was singing a lot of Paul songs along with the John songs. Just like John said... some really  great memories with all the John celebrations this week. 💝🕊✌🌠

I think that's more to do with the sound quality of recordings made during the sixties and seventies generally. Listen to Tubular Bells, Dark Side of The Moon and Band On the Run for example, all recorded between 1972 and 1973, and they are far better sounding than anything made today. The sound of those recordings are amazing, especially considering they are 47 / 48 years old. John was lucky to have been making records during the golden age of recording.
