So, can anybody tell me about Paul's performance at the 1988 Song Festival in San Remo, Italy?
You've probably seen this stuff before and don't realize it...here ya go
Oh...the All The Best promo-gigs. Thanks. Does this count, though? Weren't those performances just guest-spots on television programs?
It is listed on the main site as its own gig, so I consider it one...to each their own
I don't see it in the Tours\tour archives menu. I'm curious about the details of this performance.

That's really bizarre...because it was there. All I know about it, is that they played "Listen to what the man said" I really don't know what the event was for, or if Paul did a full set or what...

Sure looks like a TV show.

So just for discussion's sake, let's say a person who was mostly a casual Beatles/McCartney fan decided to go see the St. Louis show since it was so incredibly close to where they lived and that said fan wanted to beef up their knowledge on Paul's catalogue in order to get the most out of the show. What material would immediately come to mind to familiarize themselves with for such purposes?

You'll definitely hear something from his last three albums: Kisses On The Bottom: -My Valentine Electric Arguments (The Fireman): -Sing The Changes -possibly Sun Is Shining Memory Almost Full: -Dance Tonight Obscure Wings songs: -Mrs. Vandebilt -Nineteen Hundred And Eighty-Five Obscure solo songs: -Calico Skies Everything else, you'll most assuredly know... ...then again, I think Paul's got some major surprises in store. To be on the safe side: Re-familiarize yourself with "No More Lonely Nights" (1984); "My Brave Face" (1989); "Listen To What The Man Said" (1975), etc., etc., etc., ...

"All the Best" ~ Paul's greatest hits and "1" ~ all the Beatles number 1 songs should do the trick w/o an elaborate CD investment or ipod download.

Go to : http://www.paulmccartney.com/web/guest/home Click on TOURS, then tour archives. Then ON THE RUN 2012 You'll find all his setlists. Check out Zocalo May 10th. He'll make a few changes but that's it basically.

As dcshark has said go to the On The Run tour archive on Paul's website and check out the setlists. I would if i were you pick out the songs you're not familiar with and You Tube them, but 90% of the set you'll know. http://www.paulmccartney.com/web/guest/tours-archive;jsessionid=03A0CAC444DCF98F09BFCB454C7FA24B.lr2PR

Actually George along with Paul attended the 1988 music festival in San Remo...albeit different dates. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festival_di_Sanremo_1988

Interesting! "Paul appeared at the annual San Remo Music Festival in Italy onSaturday 27 February 1988 when he featured as the headlineattraction and on stage performed 'Once Upon A Long Ago' and 'ListenTo What The Man Said' during a 14-minute spot. He lip-synched bothsongs for a television show." So is that the only time Once Upon A Long Ago has been performed live and the last time he did Listen to What the Man Said? First time I've ever heard about this performance, I assumed it was just the television performance!

...and on the TV show "Going Live": -

There are a few "Once Upon A Long Ago" performances out there, all done within the same period.
-
Most are lip synched though? The one at the festival was completely live I presume?
-
I think there's at least one where Paul is singing live and is playing a live Les Paul. I need to look around. I've only been aware of this song for only three or four yrars, believe it or not.

I never cared for it much... ops:
