How about waiting for the tour to actually start before criticizing it? Just a thought!

Yeah, I'd wait until Sunday morning before making such a rash decision. Good chunks of the set list HAVE to remain in place. Maybe the question should be, how many NEW songs will justify calling it a NEW set list? And is a song that has not been performed in five or ten years a NEW song, or an old one?
-
If every other artist played 35+ song setlist it would be all the same songs. Just be greatful Paul plays that many songs. There arent many that could make setlist changes to to a set that long.

To be fair, many of Paul's songs are extremely short. Springsteen, for example, may play a longer show than Paul... but only have 25 songs in the setlist.

But the thing is...Paul has so many more to choose from & some of us would like to hear them...before it's too late.

Great question actually. A 5 song set list change would not be a NEW setlist. It would be 'changin it up a bit".

I'm reading members regretting this tour isn't supporting a new album release. Yet we're getting massive pre-release publicity for the Wings Over America and Rockshow DVD reissues. I'm personally expecting to see this tour support that release with the set-list and possibly the stage presentation having more than just echoes of that original 1975-76 tour. I recall recent tour material supported and promoted the Good Evening New York City CD and DVD release so expect to see Wing Over America and Rockshow feature heavily in the tour programme. So maybe not new songs - but different ones? Not long to wait now until the grand unveiling of the new tour - the new staging itself seems to be upping the ante from recent tours already.... Martin

Saw Springsteen once and he only played for 2 hours. Thought it was boring and try-hard.

I'm not the hugest Springsteen fan... but I know that his shows often exceed 3 hours, and setlists vary incredibly from night to night.... no two shows are the same. Sounds like you just picked an off-night. I was just using Springsteen as an example to point out how his shows are usually the same duration of time (or longer!) than Paul.... but his setlists may only include 25 songs vs Paul's 36 songs, because Springsteen's songs are simply longer than Paul's.

Actually Springsteen's set lists don't vary all that much, either. On his recent tour last year I was looking through the set lists for various shows, and I noticed that he had 2 basic set lists and he usually used one or the other, every other night. He might switch out a song here and there but he followed those 2 basic set lists. What I think Springsteen has done a better job of is use his tour to play songs from his new albums. And not just 1 or 2 new songs, but 6 or 7. But that, too, irritated some fans who wanted to hear the hits and said things like "the new songs are a good time to take a bathroom/beer break." So Bruce gets some of the same grief as Paul. I think they all do.

Untrue. I have seen Bruce live many, many times and can promise you that he swaps out more than just 1 or 2 songs per night. Last fall I saw him play two shows back-to-back and there were about 15 different song changes from night 1 to night 2. He does have a "core" set list which he builds the show around, and there are certain sections which remain the same during a tour, but he's far more flexible than Paul is, and as each tour progresses, the set lists become more and more varied. and 2 hours is considered short for one of his shows; his average is 3 hours.

I'm going to see Bruce Springsteen in June for the 1st time, what from I hear his shows are pretty long esp the encore.

What about Elvis Costello's shows? Didn't he do some type of request show by spinning a wheel? OMG...would that take Paul out of his comfort zone or what? Although he'd have his all set to his faves.

I saw Elvis Costello's "Spinning Songbook" tour last year.... It was a lot of fun!

Who cares about Bruce. All his songs sound the same and he extends them like they're awesome and they're not. Could have walked 5 minutes down the street and saw him with Obama, stayed at home and watch Paul on youtube.

Yep, encores, esp. at Euro/UK stadium shows, which is what he's doing this summer, are usually about 7 songs straight, no break, all high energy songs, too.

No reason to be rude, there are many people that do like him--including PAUL-- and he was used as an example in this thread as a performer who changes his setlists more than Paul does. Who do you like as a better example who changes up his or her set lists more than Paul does?
