It's REALLY screwed up when scalpers make heaps of money over benefit gigs. There needs to be new laws made to stop these people.
That's being discussed pretty hot and heavy on the 12/12/12 concert's FB page. It's disturbing to say the least that people scooped up tickets for a benefit show and then are marking up those tickets over three times their face value to make a profit. I'm not sure if The Robin Hood Foundation has the ability to block the sale of those tickets on resale sites, but the articles I posted earlier pointed out that at least the foundation is getting 10% of the value of those sales. Still disgusting, though. Given how many people will be watching the concert (estimated 1 billion), I'm hoping that donations will be plentiful.
Im going to be honest here and say this should have been a free concert like say Live 8 and have donations from the general public watching in,to charge for seats was always going to attract the scumbags sadly (and yes i know even a free concert would do the same). Not sure what the answer is to this problem but i just hope most of the money from ticket sales does see the cause its for.

Jenny.. I have always made donations to people affected by natural disaster here in the states.. for close personal reasons...being able to attend a charity benefit really lifts my spirit.. I give when I can....because,.. it's going for a great cause.. if it had been a regular gig ..I wouldn't have attended,, this will raise alot of money for the Robinhood foundation..100 percent of these proceeds will be given to those affected.. just to be able to attend live is a double- bonus.... and I feel honored to be a part of it....

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but it seems Paul will close the show. Why? because all the artists are announced in alphabetical order and then there's Paul. http://img.robinhood.org/sites/default/files/user-uploaded-images/12.3_artist_images.jpg

Ouch... Since I'm from an area also affected by Sandy (granted, not as much as NY and NY), filled with folks still recovering from Irene last year (VT was rather hard hit and a lot of people lost everything, and sadly some lost their lives), that remark is a bit offensive to say the least.
You shouldn't take things so personally....offensive, really? Oh brother.... If I did offend in anyway, I apologize but my post was not directed at anyone personally.
It's hard to take this apology sincerely, to be honest when it's proceeded by the phrase "Oh brother...". I like you quite a bit, but you threw out a blanket statement about everything that was posted in the thread as being insensitive about the tragedy that was Sandy. That's just not the case. We're not all jumping up and down about going to a concert and forgetting what the concert is about. New York and New Jersey got walloped by Sandy, but don't forget that you're not the only ones who were affected by it.
-
Yes, that is exactly what it was, a blanket statement, not directed at you or anyone personally. If you want to continue to take it that way, so be it. It is my opinion on the situation. That's allowed!

It certainly is. What I posted was my opinion about your blanket statement, also allowed.

Agreed.... I guess we should just leave it there.

I think everyone is well aware about what this concert is about. I was affected by Sandy too, and where I live, it wasn't such a Beautiful Night (Weather-wise, anyways...) But we all pulled through. We had neighbors. We all pulled together as one. And that is what I hope this concert is about. Coming Together. Uniting. The world will live as one... Please don't fight guys, this should be about coming together, not ripping each other apart. So I hope everyone commences arguing. Please stop fighting. Make s'mores, not wars. Oh, and to all that got tickets, good for you

Well, about we Europens seeing Paul live... The artists were announced to play 45 minutes each. Then I guess there'll be sometimes for commercials, speeches, stage and sound preparations, so pretty much One hour per artist. Paul is supposed to be the closing one. So there's 9 artist before him, so NINE HOURS before him. So Paul would appear at 4.30 AM NY time. That's 10.30 PM here, we could wake up to see Paul.
-
I really doubt that each artist will get 45 minutes on Wednesday night. I attended the Concert For New York City and IIRC it started at 7:30 as well and ended about 12:30 a.m. I believe there were more artists at that concert. Paul played the longest that night (~ 45 minutes) slightly less time for the Who, with remaining artists no more than 20 minutes.
