Why the fuss over Mr. Kite? It's not something any of us would EXPECT him to play, so perhaps that's the reason. Like... SURPRISE! I wouldn't mind one bit.
either would I & we will.....

Ok Martinez if you say so....
I do!

Macca Play TUG OF WAR. It's brilliant. And would be brilliant live.

RMartinez:
So, MR. KITE is ok, but I AM THE WALRUS isn't? They are about the same thing, really. In fact. I AM THE WALRUS would make more sense, it's more popular. But neither make sense, in the end.
Mr. Kite at least has a more distinctive Paul bassline.... plus it's now one of the highlights of the Vegas LOVE show.

Is Paul even playing bass on that in concert? OK, I checked he does play bass on it. Still, that is not one of his most renowned bass lines by any stretch. LOVELY RITA is much more known, and he doesn't play bass on it live. Can't say I blame him that would be tough to pull off singing and playing live.

Don't know. While I've viewed all the setlist spoilers, I've refrained from watching any YouTube clips of the new additions.... Just gotta hold out 5 more days....

Ok, I will try not to reveal too much. I think Paul maybe just loves playing the bass on that tune. I can respect that.

That's a good point, I would't expect many of them to. But, I'd like to think I wouldn't be the only one. Ever sinc Silly Love Songs was on Glee (BARF) all my friends kno it. :
That's the point, if people look and like a song because of a lousy disgusting TV show, then it's only a fashion thing, not real fans. Of course, it's their own thing as for whatever music they want to hear, but Macca fans do know a lot of his material, except for darker less publicized songs, like maybe Cosmically Conscious, Winedark Open Sea, Ou Est le Soleil or Mistress and Maid, which aren't among the group of songs long-life fans know.

I wonder why we all go around in circles over this issue? I saw Tom Petty in Albuquerque last year, and I am a casual fan, meaning I know his hits. He played a good number of deep cuts I had never heard, and I really enjoyed the music and the whole concert experience. The arena was packed and the crowd REALLY responded to Petty and his band playing REALLY good music. I find it hard to believe McCartney can't pull that off. Maybe he can't.
-
glad to hear you enjoyed it I am a casual fan also but he is one of the few I have not seen that I wanted to see. I am finally going next month looking forward to it.

IMO - Most people attending mcCartney concerts are spoiled. If they can't hear their favorite Beatle hit, they are not very interested. I remember seeing McCartney at Citifield and during "Sing The Changes" the couple next to me acted bored stiff and were checking phone for text messages.

Okay, can we get serious here? It wouldn't take too many changes to the current setlist to simultaneously please the masses and throw us hardcore fans a few bones. Here's the set list from Paul's opening show in Brazil last week, with a handful of changes that would, I think, set folks on this board aflutter. Changed items in boldface: Eight Days A Week ? Junior's Farm ? All My Loving ? Listen To What The Man Said ? I've Had Enough ? Paperback Writer ? My Valentine ? Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five ? The Long And Winding Road ? Maybe I'm Amazed ? Hope Of Deliverance ? We Can Work It Out ? Another Day ? Put It There ? Blackbird ? Here Today ? Your Mother Should Know ? Lady Madonna ? All Together Now ? Mrs Vandebilt ? That Was Me ? Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! ? All Things Must Pass ? Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da ? Band on the Run ? Hi, Hi, Hi ? Back in the U.S.S.R. ? Let It Be ? Live And Let Die ? Hey Jude Encore: ? So Glad to See You Here ? Lovely Rita ? Get Back Second Encore: ? Yesterday ? Helter Skelter ? Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The EndI've

That's the problem. I think you nailed it. Spoiled, or just narrow expectations. "When I see McCartney, I just want Beatle hits." McCartney is also playing the game. I love the songs, but in the end, do PLEASE PLEASE ME, I'LL GET YOU, DAY TRIPPER, DAY IN THE LIFE, SOMETHING, ALL THINGS MUST PASS, THE WORD/ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE, MR. KITE or GIVE PEACE A CHANCE have any business being in a Paul McCartney concert? Maybe as one off tributes or at tribute concerts. But Paul has tons of great songs of his own that could take their place. Lennon and Harrison have estates who will protect and promote their legacy. Is it really Paul's job? I say no.

Excellent point and I obviously agree. I think these tributes are no longer necessary especially in places like NYC where he has played many times the last decade. I truly believe we all understand by know how important Lennon and Harrison were in McCartney's life. I believe McCartney does these songs because it is "instant" gratification, he knows they will get big response because it is a Beatle or solo song from John or George. Heaven forbid, the audience have to put up with 3-4 minutes of a song they are not familiar with even if it is very good song - lol. In the end, I have come to the conclusion that McCartney does not really value his solo recordings. These songs are recorded and done on a current tour and then put away never to be heard again with rare exceptions.

That's because he's done dozens of concerts in NYC. In places like Mexico or Brazil, fans get crazy with every song they hear, I witnessed it myself in Mexico City. Just take a look at the Zocalo concert from a year ago, it was insane, people and Paul and his band too. It's understandable that many people get bored in a NYC or Los Angeles concert, since he's there every 3 years or so. Here's an account of NYC and Los Angeles area concerts: New York: 2 in 1976 4 in 1989 1 in 1993 2 in 2002 4 in 2005 3 in 2009 2 in 2010 (minor gigs) 2 in 2011 2 in 2013 22 in total (one of the cities with most Paul's concerts) Los Angeles: 4 in 1976 5 in 1989 1 in 1993 4 in 2002 4 in 2005 2 in 2010 20 in total So, only from those 2 US cities, you got 42 concerts, 2 being little gigs with a Little set of songs, whereas Mexico City has 9 concerts, and Guadalajara only 1. Brazil has been more visited since 2010, but still their total of 16 shows is lower tan those 2 American cities, but he was absent for 17 years, so the excitement is pretty high.

True. But it's not like Paul doesn't play HIS OWN Beatle songs in concert. He does and he has plenty of them.

That's something I don't have problems with, I liked a lot ATMP, IGY, PPM, and the latest additions. And about the big amount of performances in the US, I think it makes many people get bored or dislike some songs, obviously not the whole concert, but the same old same old songs.

I like them too. I am just not as much in agreement that Paul needs to play them. Why not play I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND or SHE LOVES YOU or FROM ME TO YOU? At least he wrote part of those songs. Why not play ANOTHER GIRL or WAIT or OH DARLING! or MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER or MARTHA MY DEAR or HONEY PIE? That's my only point. But yes, the crowd goes wild when Paul plays a Beatle tune, ANY Beatle tune.

Yeah, there are no Beatle songs people don't respond strongly to. And you're right on the additions, I'd say another ones: Fixing a Hole, For No One, What You're Doing, In My Life, You Won't See Me, She's a Woman, Hold Me Tight.
