"Out There" 2013 Setlist Critique and Suggestions

Paul's not Pearl Jam. He picks a set, and basically sticks to it for the entire tour.... other than those aforementioned 2 or 3 song swaps for cities with 2nd shows. I don't have any inside scoop. But if you are a follower of his shows, you should know this.
Yes, what I meant is that I expect there will be a new song added/subtracted here and there. Guess we'll see.

God forbid he do something from oh let's say the last 20 years. Besides a couple. It is a fine setlist but why does he sell his solo work so short?

Well you know why: He wants to perform songs that everyone knows and can sing along to. I would like to see Ever Present Past done live. I think the crowd would go for that. (I confess I was never a big fan of Highway so I'm glad to see that one gone.) Or Fine Line.

What gets me is that McCartney never seems to want to please the people who have actually bought his records/CD's from the last 20 years by actually performing a bunch of it live. Wonder if McCartney has a clue that people actually like songs he has recorded since 1979 when Wings ended. Plus, the only reason it is not just one is because one of the songs was written for his wife.

I will grant you he should have played at least one or two new songs off the upcoming record to create buzz, or at least something more then just My Valentine. He could try to stay more current from his legacy. Still there would have been only a couple songs I would have changed. I won't complain however with this set list when I see it because I will be too excited!

Don't get me wrong (as I KNOW many will) I really do love the Beatles songs...you should see my collection...but I also love his solo stuff.

oh goodness no...there really is nothing to complain about. Really. I'm getting older as is he & I'd just like to see some of his current work performed live. By the genius that wrote them.

Good for you, hope you have a great time. I am looking at this from a perspective of seeing him on almost every tour since 1976. I have loved every minute of it but at this point I would not pay a couple of hundred dollars to see him again. The reason is I have heard all the Beatle songs that were important to me and Wings songs I loved in the 70's. I have faithfully bought almost every solo pop record he has made, very few exceptions (Pipes of Peace, Give My Regards To Broad Street). If he is not going to do at least 5-6 of these songs, there is no reason for me to go anymore. Other people don't feel this way and that is fine

I think it all boils down to what you like, other might not and vice versa. I understand where some of you are coming from, honestly I do. You don't want to keep going to see him and a big chunk of his music isn't being represented. I understand. I suppose for me personally (this going to be my 2nd concert) it is still the experience of getting to see him perform and in all honesty there isn't much I wouldn't want to see him play. I wish that I would have had the opportunity to have seen more and am just grateful to be in the room of Paul performing at a competent level still. If I had seen him more times then maybe I could see feeling some of his set list being more tired. No disrespect.Sorry if anything I said came off as such.

You are the fan Paul is playing to and most of the audience is the same, and imo there is nothing wrong with that.

That's just totally false. In '93 he did new songs from Off The Ground on the New World Tour. In '99 played most of Run Devil Run at The Cavern. Then in '02 he did new songs from Driving Rain live (and threw in Vanilla Sky to boot), in '05 new songs from Chaos and Creation, in '07 several songs from Memory Almost Full at the Secret Shows, and every tour since has done songs from Memory, Electric Arguments, and Kisses. He always does new songs. Always! They just don't dominate the setlist. Why? Because people fill stadiums to see him play Beatles songs, that's why!
-
However this tour only 1 'new' song that isn't really new. I hope at some point he can figure out how to do an actual new song. That would be thrilling for his fans at least.

Being For The Benefit of Mr Kite???
his new tribute to john : :
-
He filled in a few blanks of Beatles songs he has never played live until last night. He has still never done Oh! Darling, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, or Rocky Raccoon live. Any other Beatles that were his he hasn't done?
-
Another Girl Martha My Dear I'm sure there are a couple more!

I would say that the fact he performed several Beatles songs which he has never done live shows that he knows exactly what he is doing and he obviously has a clue what the people want. Also the fact that he did the exact opposite of what people on this board want him to do, by adding more Beatles and removing solo songs, makes it even clearer.

Yes, the majority of people would love a entire Beatle show probably and I have said that before that but I am not one of them. It is quite easy for McCartney, crank out any Beatle number and he knows the people will go crazy. Myself and others have acknowledged that we xpect him to sing a bunch of Beatle songs. I think we find it amazing that he does a concert of 38 songs and only two are less than two decades old. Finally, do you think the crowd was really praying he was going to do "All Together Now" - lol.

I understand your point completely with it being your 2nd concert. There is still more "gems" to hear and hope you "soak it all in" - lol. Once again, have a fantastic time. McCartney is truly a living legend !!!

I would never had asked him to play All Together Now in my dream set, I bet it played really well live though (along with Obladi) I am very interested in seeing him do Benefit of Mr Kite, while once again never would have expected it or asked for. I sort of wish I had gone into it not knowing and be surprised, but that wasn't going to happen.
