RMartine, clearly you haven't been paying attention, McCartney has said over and over and over that he will never ever retire, he loves music way too much!
Um, ok.

This is like common knowledge...are you kidding me?

No, but to his death? Yeah. Look at Les Paul...

Wasn't it the 1990 Put It There documentary when Paul was asked when he'd considering retiring, and he responded: "I'm not even interested in answering that question...so there," laughingly? I can't count how many times I've heard him reiterate that very sentiment since.

I'm talking about McCartney touring as he does now. Yeah, I hope he lives many more decades. But any rational, normal person knows he will have to slow down, maybe do special shows here and there, probably (gasp!) have to stop performing HELTER SKELTER or MAYBE I'M AMAZED. A day will come when his touring will stop. It will end. Mark my words.

I don't think anyone is arguing those sentiments! He could never play helter Skelter again and I'd be O-K with that!

On the most minimal level, I think he will perform schedules similar to '07 and '08. Hardly demanding tour itineraries at all. And he still sounds fab on "Helter Skelter."

Not when he is 80 he won't.

Fair enough. I can see him age 79, singing MY VALENTINE, BABY'S REQUEST, and YESTERDAY then quietly exiting the stage.

When Paul started doing "Helter" in '04, he was 60'ish. I never dreamed he'd STILL be doing it -- every night -- at 71! I learned to stop underestimating the man sometime around Run Devil Run.

Check out the note at 05:51...

My opinion is that Paul will not retire until he more or less has to (due to health reasons, etc)...I don't think he can just lay the guitar down and say 'I just want to chill out for the rest of my life'...
-
I was watching the Wings Over the World movie yesterday and a reporter in Australia asked whether he thought he should even be making rock n roll music anymore because he was 33 years old, which the reporter said was too old. My daughter and I were laughing pretty hard.
-
Tony Bennett can do what he does because he sang the kind of music when he was 35 that you can sing at 85. I don't see Paul at 85 singing I SAW HER STANDING THERE, or CAN'T BUY ME LOVE or songs like that, unless he changes the key, slows them down, and turns them into lounge songs. You all act like him showing people how wrong they could be when he was 33 can be pulled off at 85. I guarantee you he won't. Not at that age.
-
Someone said she had been going over her old Wings material & Paul had this to say about the Wings tour... "In one interview he mentioned how he would throw in one or two Beatles songs > for the old timers but that the focus of the tour would be on his new songs > because that's what people wanted to hear!!"

When I mentioned the Wings Over the World clip I wasn't trying to say that Paul can do anything at any age, I was just pointing out that he was getting crap for being *33*, like that was seriously over the hill for a rock star at that time. Since he is more than double that now and I myself am beyond the 33 year mark I had to laugh. I had no commentary on pulling off any notes or songs... just kind of funny to see that since he's still going strong nearly forty years later.

I'll give you that! Even Paul would have made a face in 1976 if told he would still be on stage with a rock band at age 71.

That's not true, because McCartney has known all along that he would never ever retire! The man himself has said that when he gets even older they will have to drag him off the stage, those are his very own words!
